Interesting Post
Meoooow ! Damn it is contagious !

The social animal

Human is a social animal, often for the best, sometimes for the worst.

From January 1962 and during 6 months, in eastern Tanzania, more than 1000 young teenagers, mainly girls, were affected by uncontrolled laughter, cries, rashes, farts, screaming. It started in a school with 3 girls in a mission boarding school on Tanganika lake shores. It later propagated to the whole school and, when it had to close down, to the whole Tanzania.

During the Middle Ages, in France, a nun, in a very large convent in France, began to meow like a cat; shortly afterwards other nuns also meowed. At last all the nuns meowed together every day at a certain time for several hours together. The whole surrounding Christian neighborhood heard, with equal chagrin and astonishment, this daily cat-concert, which did not cease until all the nuns were informed that a company of soldiers were placed by the police before the entrance of the convent, and that they were provided with rods, and would continue whipping them until they promised not to meow any more.

In 1983, on the West Bank, young palestinian girls started to faint. Israel was first blamed but later, it was found that it was psychological. A total of more than 900 mostly young ladies were affected.

There are hundreds of cases like that, sometimes funny like the nuns, sometimes tragic like the 1518 dance outbreak of Strasbourg when 100s of people danced without rest for days and even weeks, dying from exhaustion, dehydration or hunger.

But it raises the question: can everyone be affected ? Can I be affected ? And in which conditions ?
It seems the stress is a common factor: stress between the life in the african village and the mission school, stress of an oppressing religion in a monastery, stress in the occupied West Bank, stress again of Alsace under the Reform and Counter Reform.
And to a point, I am sometimes wondering if Nazism, genocide in Rwanda and other atrocities could not be attributed to this mass hysteria. Could it be that we all have the power to be a monster. Could it be that the abnormality is after all totally natural, a feature of human ?
I think so. And it's frightful.
Over the past millennium, mass delusions and hysterical outbreaks have taken many forms.

Check it out as Kevin Libertowski pulls off an amazing trampoline trick shot involving multiple flips and basketballs! How many attempts do you think this took to pull off? We're guessing one!

We live in visual times! Without leaving our chairs we can watch strange alien worlds over a distance of 4,28 - 7.5 billion km! That needed a 9+ years trip at the speed of more than 10 times the speed of a rifle bullet.

Thanks for posting a theory in my stream +Olivier Malinur  :)

It quite funny, because I met a geologist yesterday in a bar, a magma specialist. Interesting guy too… The more wine we drunk, the less geology we spoke.
Clermont-Ferrand could also be replaced by a small hill by the way…  A smoking one.
