Tri-Rail/SFRTA declared this week as Train Safety Awareness Week! During this week, volunteers from the railroad industry, as well as law enforcement personnel and emergency responders, will stage an information blitz to educate the public about the laws and rules governing activity around train tracks and grade crossings. Tragedies on train tracks are totally avoidable. Please help us get the word out to everyone about staying safer around railroad tracks and trains! #TSAW

In an opinion column published in the Miami Herald, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez urges Florida Department of Transportation to make Tri-Rail to MiamiCentral station a reality by 2017. #BringTriRailDowntown
The elected officials who represent the residents of Miami-Dade, the city of Miami and the Omni and Southeast Overtown/Park West community redevelopment agencies have unanimously approved making the necessary investment to bring Tri-Rail to All Aboard Florida’s MiamiCentral station. Tri-Rail/SFRTA once again hosted "Training on the Train" in conjunction with Southeastern Guide Dogs. Two or three times each year, puppy-raisers give their superhero pups a chance to experience the noises, smells and sights that occur during a train ride. The ability to use public transportation for someone who is visually impaired is essential to maximize their freedom of mobility.

Today is International Level Crossing Awareness Day! To help us spread this message, the “Dumb Ways To Die” crew is back for more of their silly antics, all in the name of promoting safety around trains and tracks. Remember—“See tracks? Think Train” #TSAW

Story
Tagline
South Florida's premier commuter rail serving Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
Introduction
Tri-Rail is Southeast Florida’s commuter rail line, which extends 72 miles from Miami to Mangonia Park with a total of 18 stations. The name refers to the three counties through which the line passes: Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. It is operated by the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, an agency of the State of Florida.

Tri-Rail had its origins when, in 1989 it began to operate as a temporary commuter rail service while construction crews widened Interstate 95 and the parallel Florida’s Turnpike. In 2003, the Florida Legislature transformed the Tri-County Commuter Rail Authority (Tri-Rail) into the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA).

The Authority was created with a vision to provide greater mobility in South Florida, thereby improving the economic viability and quality of life of the community, region and state. The Authority’s mission is to coordinate, develop and implement a viable regional transportation system in South Florida that endeavors to meet the desires and needs for the movement of people, goods and services. The SFRTA currently operates Tri-Rail, which spans Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties. Additional regional services may be added in the future.
