Christmas Cantata is Planned—This year our cantata is a version of Handel’s Messiah. We are not doing the entire piece, but we are doing some significant portions of it. We have been working hard and we will present the work on Sunday December 15th as a part of our Sunday worship experience. You will definitely want to be present for this worship service. Be sure to invite a friend to come with you.

Christmas Parade Outreach Event
This year the Christmas Parade is on Thursday night December 5th. We are not, as a church, planning on entering a float in the parade this year. That does not mean, however, that we are going to ignore the parade. Instead we are going to offer some radical hospitality to the other folks that come out to watch the parade. Our plans are to set up a free hot chocolate station on the main corner downtown. We will give away cups of hot chocolate to any and all that come by wanting some. I will need helpers for this event. I anticipate a high demand for the warm drink on a cold December night. So, if you are interested in being an ambassador of holiday warmth and cheer — on behalf of the church— then please call the office and get on our servants list for this event.

Wise Guys are Coming December 1st — That’s right the Wise Guys (not the Wise Men-they don’t come until Epiphany) The Wise Guys are the brass ensemble from UVA Wise. Rick will be bringing them down to lead our worship service on the first Sunday in Advent. You will want to be present and hear them as they fill our worship space with their marvelous sound

Workshop on Planned Estate Giving is Set for November 17th
I want you to be aware that Sunday November 17th will be a special Sunday. First of all, we will welcome Roger Redding, Director of the Holston Conference Foundation to our pulpit. He will talk about the role of stewardship and giving in our lives. More importantly, he will also lead a workshop that afternoon on planned/estate giving considerations. As a part of the workshop, all participants will receive a book that they can take home and complete by filling in blanks on its pages. Once completed, this book will be a resource for a family that contains all kinds of financial, insurance, and other information. Every family will want to get one of these books and attendance at the workshop on that day will insure that you will. The workshop begins at 2:00 pm and should end sometime between 3:30pm and 4:00 pm. So come to church and then go get a bite to eat and then come back for this informative and vital workshop.

Our November Fellowship Meal
This Wednesday we will host our November Fellowship meal at the church at 6:30 pm. This is a potluck meal and everyone is invited to attend. Since this is Thanksgiving month, perhaps some of your favorite fall and/or Thanksgiving foods would be appropriate for this meal. Cook a couple of dishes and come out and join together with us for this special time of fellowship.

It was a wonderful day at church today. We celebrated All Saint's Sunday. We had four young men make their profession of faith and be confirmed. Three of them joined the church. In addition, we had three adults unite with the church. We also had Holy Communion with more than 80 names read and or called out as a part of the Communion of the Saints celebration. Then there was the choir that did a superb job with the anthem. It has been an emotional high for me. Two of those young men that made their professions of faith were my sons. As soon as I can get then downloaded--i'll upload some pictures to the Facebook site.

SOME UPDATES:
As you are most likely aware, Paula Barton's father Lawrence Black, died this week. They received friends tonight and the funeral will be tomorrow at 1100 am at the Wise Baptist Church.

You may not be aware that Martha Spurlock's dad passed away this morning at his home. I do not yet know of any details concerning the arrangements.

I also received a call from John Hagan about Beth. She has come through the procedure and will be in ICU for about 4 days. Things went pretty much as they were planned.

Keep all these families in your thoughts and prayers.
