It would take about seven months to travel this distance in a spaceship. Better be some good in-flight entertainment. In case you're wondering, you'd need about 2000 feature-length movies to occupy that many waking hours. Sit back and relax. Jupiter is more than 3 times as far as we just ...

"People only do 'altruistic' things so that they can feel good about themselves."

No, this explanation requires that people constantly have metacognition regarding the way their actions will make them feel. A much simpler model is that the altruistic people actually care about more than their own internal states.

This explanation is a very common misunderstanding of Einstein's gravity. In Einstein's gravity, space is 4-dimensional and objects are all constantly moving in straight lines at the speed of light. Objects that are "stationary" are moving in a straight line through the time dimension. Objects that move at the speed of light are moving in one of the spacial dimensions only, and therefore are unmoving in time. Objects that move at a slower speed, move at some fraction of the speed of light in a spatial dimension, and some fraction of the speed of light in the time dimension. In all three cases, the total magnitude of the object's velocity is the speed of light.

Now the curvature changes what a straight line is. Just like "straight" lines on the surface of the earth appear to bend because the earth's surface is curved, bent space-time causes objects moving only in the time dimension to start moving a little bit in a spatial dimension. This is why stationary objects fall toward the ground. Objects in orbit are constantly having their velocity bent by space time so that they move along a circular path.
