The web design work for this NYTimes article is absolutely stunning. Amazing use of the HTML5 <video> tag and interactive scrolling.

I can only hope that future articles are have similar production quality.

My favorite part is when the background turns dark right before the 3D map.
At a basic level I liked the profiles of people mentioned in the article on the right. Something most blogs can pick up on to easily make their content more interactive (similar to having them at the bottom, but makes more sense to quickly provide more information where they're mentioned)
Thanks for calling attention to this article. This is a great example of what makes the web such a great medium for presenting information.
