Funny how not long after the FCC opened up comments on the Net Neutrality discussion, the site has been crashing & is overwhelmed. The segment by John Oliver is brilliant.

I imagine that most of you reading this are already aware of how much the cable monopolies are threatening #netneutrality , but for anyone who isn't, this clip from John Oliver lays out perfectly what's at stake, and why we're even talking about this right now.

I totally want one of these now painted as a Deathstar (comes in both green and orange plastic inner structure). Search your Ikea page for 2014 new stuff - here is the Canada link for the green inner version: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/60251123/

Checked out the lamp, it is definitely interesting.  The cable on the lamp is already starting to fray in the Ikea but I don't know how long it's been installed there so if it can take daily abuse from Ikea customers, it's possible it could survive your own use.  The green color is a very light pale green color. I think if Ikea did these with a plain white inner frame as well, those would probably sell more.  I didn't buy one but it was tempting.

Iron Man Hall of Armor - 1/6th Style
Many of my friends know I have a special place on my man shelf for Iron Man.  Iron Men actually.  I have what is currently a four man army consisting of the Hot Toys series of 1/6th scale Iron Man collectibles.  My first pair is the Mark II & Mark III suits from the first movie.  The second pairing comes from the second movie which is the Mark VI (Triangular chest light) and War Machine.

The original Mark III collectible from Hot Toys wasn't exactly the best looking of "Red" colors and is more of a burgundy color.  It looks dull compared to the Mark VI and I actually considered getting a Mark IV version with the newer better looking paint to replace it.  Once Hot Toys announced the Hall of Armor diorama's... I knew exactly what I wanted to do instead.

Well, my pair of Hall of Armor kits arrived today and I've put them together.  My Mark II and Mark III now have a new display mode with my Mark VI and War Machine standing guard.  I have to completely redo my man shelf to fit these 15.25in tall beasts onto a shelf but it'll be worth it once I figure out how I want to do it.  In the mean time, enjoy the glory of what they look like with the suits lit up.  I left off the "Hologram" plastic overlay panel that goes in the front for these shots but may add another photo later.

The photos really don't do these things justice and they look pretty darn amazing in person.

cough*AlsoHaveThatOnOrderWithWarMachine2DieCast*cough  what? ;) - Thanks, now I have a little project to finish the sides so you don't see the power interlinks between modules visible on the exposed side (one set of AAA's is powering both because the units link together.)  The vertical side panels are on separate power (3 x AAs each) because they are removable but I may find a way to hardwire all of them together at some point to a 4.5V external wallwart.  The base/cabinet is already provisioned for an external 4.5V PSU hook up for full time usage, I just wish they thought of hooking that in with the side panels in some way too.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes!
Ok so the new Google+ layout will take some getting used to but I read in another post a handy little thing.  Hit the "?" key and you will see all the keyboard shortcuts.

The best two are the J and K keys. They are the "Next" and "Previous" keys for jumping from post to post and it highlights the post in a blue box. Easy way to bounce through posts in sequence.  If that post has a "Read more...", hit the O key to expand and contract it. Handy :)

I'm typically not one to share this kind of stuff but I found this to be a rather interesting piece of work.

This is just amazing, and absolutely worth your time. I promise, it is worth your time.

MIT comes up with cool stuff
Remember scenes in movies where a spy organization determines speech from the vibrations that are only visible to a camera?  MIT have actually done that in real life:

Algorithm recovers speech from the vibrations of a potato-chip bag filmed through soundproof glass.

The cool stuff Adafruit keeps bringing out makes me wish I had more time to play with these electronics for crazy ideas I have in my brain :)

New Product: NeoPixel Clear 5mm Through-Hole LED - 5 Pack
http://adafru.it/duk

LOLwut? NeoPixels in 5mm through-hole variety? Oh yes, we haz them! If you like NeoPixel strips you'll luv these 5mm clear through-hole NeoPixels. All the single-pin-controlling-hundreds-of-LEDs goodness in a breadboard friendly format. Each LED looks just like a shorter version of the classic through-hole 5mm RGB LED with 4 legs, but instead of just red/green/blue there's a little chip inside that can control the LED with high speed PWM for 24-bit color.

Power them with 5V and chain them together, tying the Data-Out pin of one to the Data-in of the previous one in the chain. If you're using an Arduino, you can control these LEDs with our wonderfully-written Neopixel library for Arduino. They also work great with our Trinkets. Note that these are "RGB" instead of "GRB" format used in the 5050-sized LEDs you are so used to. Check in the NeoPixel example code for how to swap the colors automagically.

These great looking LEDs are also fast and responsive with a short clear body for a sparkling look.

The Cubli: a cube that can jump up, balance, and 'walk'

The Cubli is a 15 × 15 × 15 cm cube that can jump up and balance on its corner. Reaction wheels mounted on three faces of the cube rotate at high angular velocities and then brake suddenly, causing the Cubli to jump up. Once the Cubli has almost reached the corner stand up position, controlled motor torques are applied to make it balance on its corner. In addition to balancing, the motor torques can also be used to achieve a controlled fall such that the Cubli can be commanded to fall in any arbitrary direction. Combining these three abilities -- jumping up, balancing, and controlled falling -- the Cubli is able to 'walk'.

Decided not to get the url because, I am sorry the policy is too draconian for me. Fine print says anyone can trace that number back to a profile, not sure a goof up wont disclose something I want private.

Introduction
Visio graphics development is my world as I sit drawing stuff for high tech companies most of the day. Computers are my second hobby and I enjoy the world of Water Cooled PCs and what neat things I can do there. I'm playing around in photography with my SLR and I have started various video projects as well.
