You see, not Cuba but Puerto Rico!!!
The piña colada was born in Puerto Rico, but the identity of the bartender who first mixed up the iconic rum-based cocktail remains a point of contention.

For our friends in Toronto & Buffalo, New York!

Puerto Rican food trucks make debut in Buffalo!

The city’s first Puerto Rican food truck started dishing up pastelillos and papas fritas on Niagara Street last week.

Ricos Pinchos Place is run by a husband and wife team who started their career started selling coconut candy in Puerto Rico in 1996. In this country, Sarahi Alicea and her husband Hector Carrasquillo have been serving festivalgoers since 2013, Alicea said.

Their food truck has been in operation since June 8, often setting up on Niagara Street near Tops, between Maryland and Hudson streets, around noon, Tuesday through Saturday.

There’s rice with pork chops, chicken or beef, and nonalcoholic pina colada drinks. There’s also a selection of fried snacks, including pastelillos, or fried turnovers, papas fritas, baseball-sized mashed potato spheres stuffed with spiced meat and fried. Less often seen in Buffalo are alcapurrias, fritters made from green banana, and piononos, which are plantain pinwheels with beef or chicken.

Then a second: A second Puerto Rican food truck, Taste of Puerto Rico, has also hit the streets.

The truck, which was originally to be named Niagara Café Express, started selling June 13. Its menu includes yellow rice with pigeon peas, and pastelillos, or fried turnovers, in flavors including beef and cheese, chicken and cheese, pizza, and a dessert version with strawberries and cream cheese. Tostones, or plantain chips, are also available, along with limbers, which are frozen ice pops.

“We plan on being out several days during the week, including Thursdays in the Square,” said Anita Rodriguez, who owns the truck, along with her stepson Romelo Matos. As with any food truck, fans can check Facebook to find Taste of Puerto Rico’s location.

We recently had 6 couples who stayed at the Tres Palmas Inn for 2 nights prior to our cruise. The Inn is so quaint with every room having it's own personality. The best part of the Tres Palmas Inn is their front desk staff. Every one we came in contact with were amazing. Upon check in they took us to our room and showed us around and throughout our stay they bent over backwards to take care of anything we wanted/needed. I can't wait to go back!

We spent a relaxing and fun week at Tres Palmas. The staff is great, very helpful, accommodating and kind. Once you walk in through the entrance, its like you stepped into your own personal piece of paradise.

This is the fifth time we have stayed at Tres Palmas Inn. Again, not one disappointment. The rooms are clean and the staff just as friendly as ever. They've done some remodeling and the Inn looks wonderful! Edwin, Helen and Marlene made suggestions about restaurants which were reasonably priced, close by and delicious. The beach is right across the street and you can fall asleep listening to the waves crash. The sounds of the coqui frogs make that wonderful music all night long and it's so comforting. Their new hot tubs, one on the ground floor and one on the upper sundeck are clean, not too hot and are well cared for. The pool is crystal clear and maintained all day long by removing flowers that fall from the vines that are close by. The Tres Palmas Inn is our home away from home. This visit, my wife who has very low vision, missed a step as she went to breakfast and fell. Marlene was very attentive and quickly got her the medical attention she needed. Further, Marlene gave us very good directions to the closest hospital to get the bump on my wife's head treated. Not only did she take good care of us then, she looked after my wife throughout the rest of the vacation. The owner of the hotel, Edwin, did as well. Her fall was by no means the hotel's fault and yet they were attentive and caring. Needless to say we missed breakfast that morning. But we made up for it the next! Their breakfast bar is complete with fresh orange juice, milk, coffee, tea, lean cuts of meat, cheese, toast and usually a coffee cake or some sort of breakfast sweet as well as cereals and fresh fruit. All available to help yourself and go or stay and enjoy the morning leisurely in the courtyard that has ample tables and seating. You can also order pancakes, french toast or oatmeal from their kitchen and the service is fast and the food is hot and tasty. If you're staying on the beach in front, they have lots of beach chairs, boogie boards, beach umbrellas and large beach towels all soft and fresh... all free of charge during your visit. If you feel adventurous and would like the use a bike to trek into town a little further, they have them available as well. Seriously, it doesn't get much better than this! Tres Palmas has also incorporated yoga and palates for their guests and locals from the area. Although I have not experienced it there (or anywhere for that matter), I did hear from other guests that they enjoyed their experience. If you're really looking to try something new or you're a skilled water sports person, they have added Sotavento Water Sports right on the premises! Steps away and you can have a professional (yes a true professional in every sense of the word!) give you lessons in windsurfing, kiteboarding or paddleboarding at a very reasonable price. They also have windsurfing equipment rentals for those who already have it down. All in all we spent 7 wonderful nights with the nicest and most accommodating people we have ever encountered in all our world travels. The Inn is reasonably priced and situated on the perfect beach and close to most everything. If you're not happy with anything, they will work their hardest to correct the problem (I really haven't found anything!) in a prompt and appreciative manner. You will love staying here. You have their word on it. And mine as well.

My home away from home in Puerto Rico, great view, great staff, everything was awesome. If you are looking for a place to stay in Puerto Rico for your next getaway, that is going to feel like home, you found it. Its a few blocks from everything and short cab ride to hot nights after fun in the sun. Luis was the coolest, led us to awesome locals and hot spots.

Will definitely stay again! If you are looking for 5 star luxury, this is not it. However, if you are looking for 5 star comfort in a very quaint setting that accommodates you in every way they can, then this IS IT! Clean and comfortable. Stuffs dated, but this is not brand new lodging. I think it's perfect for San Juan Island living! Felt very much like a bed and breakfast in a little village. Loved IT!

Was in PR for4 daysand I enjoyed my stay in Tres Palmas. Staff members are friendly and humble. They will make you feel like home. The beach is 2minutes walking distance fromthe hotel. They have all the facilities you can ask while you are in a vacation. Restaurants are walking distance from the hotel. Bus station is also nearby. They provide complimentray breakfast and trust me quantity is enough for everyone. In case they are finished with something, they make sure they refill it. During my stay I had a problem with my right foot. They immediately took me to the emergency service. I recommend this place for everyone.
