Secret Sunday! Sssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhh!
Our staff share their secret haunts, local knowledge and favourite places with you…

Best Castle
Castell y Bere
One of Llewelyn ap Iorwerth’s castles, Castell y Bere was built after 1221 in Merioneth. The castle was impressive with strong towers, simple curtain walls and strong rock cut ditches. Our staff recommend this as one of their favourite places for a picnic with its impressive views and peace and quiet it is the perfect spot.

All these walks and more are listed in our comprehensive “Walks, Drives and Days Out” guide. Our walks are graded; Easy (E) Moderate (M) Hard (H) and Various (V).

10. Morfa Mawddach Trail (E)
The trail guides you from Barmouth to Dolgellau along 9 miles of disused railway track, following the Mawddach Estuary. It can be joined at a number of points along the route taking advantage of the Cambrian Coast Railway. This is the perfect walk for all ages and abilities as it follows a well maintained track. It is also popular with families for cycling.

Best Fish for Miles!
Dai’s Shed sells local fish and shellfish caught by Aberdovey Fisherman Dai Hughes. All of the produce sold at Dai’s Shed is caught off the Aberdovey Coast, often the same morning. Their seasonal catch frequently includes lobster, Crab, Sea Bass, Mullet and Mackerel.

11. Aberystwyth (E)

A nice easy walk with plenty of benches to rest along the way. To start this walk we recommend that you begin at the Castle grounds, however, the walk can be taken up at any point along the promenade. The construction of Aberystwyth Castle began in 1277. Work was finally completed in 1289, surviving two Welsh uprisings. The current state of the castle is due to an order to blow it up in 1649, combined with the use of it as a convenient supply of stone for the construction of other buildings in the town.Should you reach the end of the promenade then you could take the cliff railway to the top of Constitution hill, which reaches 430ft.

9 - Our beautifully-manicured, nine hole putting green is the ideal place to perfect your putt! Overlooking Aberdovey's 18-hole championship links golf course, it's a great way to warm up for a round. Putters and golf balls are available for you to borrow from reception.

Best View
Constitution Hill, Aberystwyth.
The most relaxing way to enjoy the majestic panorama of Cardigan Bay is to travel by train on the longest funicular railway in Britain, which has been transporting visitors to the summit since opening in 1896. Once at the summit visitors can experience the views afforded by one of the world’s largest camera obscuras, which offers a birds eye view of 1000 square miles of land and seascape.
