Help a rescue- or 13!
Rattie Giving Trees are now live!
http://ttrgivingtree.com/
Up to three trees are set up to help each of the rescues that have registered with The Travelin' Rat during 2017. These rescues deal with surrenders and hoarding situations and abuse cases all year long and we'd like to help bring some joy to them this holiday season!
If you would like to participate in this event, click on on a tree link under the rescue, then click on an ornament to see more info about one of the rescue's rats and a donation button. (Some rescues do not have rats available right now, so you may see another animals or rats that you can donate in memory of.)
New this year: No set donation amounts!
Thank you for any help that you can give, whether donating or sharing this fundraiser. 💗 We can't do this without all of you. We'd love for this to be a huge event and make the holidays a little brighter for the rescues this year!
Thank you to Shane Riley for ALL of his effort on this project! It could not be a reality without him!ANY donation amount is great appreciated. Let's help make this time of year a little easier for the rescues and send them some love! <3

http://www.thetravelinrat.org/rescue-of-the-month.html

Best Friend Rodent Rescue is a no kill, 501 (C) (3) non-profit animal shelter and rescue dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and finding homes for neglected and abandoned small animals, primarily domestic rats, from other shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By with committed volunteers, foster homes and local veterinarians, we are able to rescue hundreds of small animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all domesticated rat owners by providing education, information on responsible pet ownership including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition for this often misunderstood and underappreciated animal.

The Travelin' Rat's August 2017 Rescue of the month is: Mainely Rat Rescue in Falmouth, ME!
http://www.thetravelinrat.org/rescue-of-the-month.html

Mainely Rat Rescue (a 501(c)3 organization) was founded in August of 2007. This month we are celebrating our 10 year anniversary. We were founded by four women who had worked and volunteered in shelters for many years, and saw a need to rescue and re-home unwanted domestic pet rats, a misunderstood, and often overlooked species in many shelters.
MRR’s mission is to rehabilitate and find homes for surrendered or abandoned domestic rats, as well as spreading awareness, education and support for all the animals in their care. In addition we strive to educate the public about what wonderful animals domestic pet rats are, as well as one day hoping to have the resources available to rehome other small animals in need. Our foster homes are located across New England (ME, MA., NH, CT, VT, RI).

All animals are properly cared for while in the custody of MRR, provided with food, shelter, socialization, and medical treatment when needed. We work closely with several area veterinarians, and references can be provided on request. We are a “no-kill” rescue, and only perform humane euthanasia after careful consideration, when it is decided to be in the best interest of the animal.

The Travelin' Rat's May 2017 Rescue of the month is: Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary in German Valley, IL!
http://www.thetravelinrat.org/rescue-of-the-month.html

Critter Camp is the only exotic pet sanctuary operated solely by volunteers that is USDA licensed & inspected, has 501(c)(3) status, and accepts only small, unadoptable, unusual pets - no wildlife, cats, dogs, or farm animals. Critter Camp has been in operation since 2004. We take in abused, abandoned, and otherwise homeless, small exotic pets. We provide the finest care for the least wanted pets - elder, aggressive, those with chronic illnesses, etc. Our ferrets have their own free range room and the rabbits and guinea pigs also have free range enclosures. All animals have out-of-cage time, as appropriate. Obviously, with these types of rescues, we have high veterinary and supply costs. We do not qualify for grant funding due to the pets being exotics and because we are a sanctuary, as opposed to an adoption center. We appreciate every supporter no matter how big or small ! CritterCampMom (Beth) has been suffering from severe Meniere's disease for 2 years, making it more difficult to spend time raising funds as all energy is on caring for the animals.
The newest rescues include:
Ivix (a blind fennec fox)
Petey (an extremely old cockatiel, who is over 30)
Olaf (a mink- a fur farm escapee)

Most recent rat rescues:
In March, we took in a group of 20 rats from a domestic violence situation where a woman would not leave before her rats were placed because she knew her significant other would kill them and no place within 100 miles would accept 20 1+ year old rats. We also have some half wilds that were born to domestic pet moms (that went on little romps outdoors or in apartment buildings) too that are non-handleable.

Sales of Frankie Finds Critter Camp, written by Beth Randall, benefit the sanctuary:
Heartwarming story of Frankie the ferret who loved his person Mindy, but when she could no longer care for him he found himself lost and alone. Follow Frankie as he heads out to find Critter Camp, where animals have a place to live out their lives when no one else will care for them. Along the way, Frankie meets other former pets like himself, each with their own touching stories. This book is based on true stories of real-life animals that have been cared for at Critter Camp. All proceeds benefit the 300 rescued animals living their lives safe, happy and loved at Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary.

Please change The Travelin' Rat as your designated charity for fundraisers including Amazon Smile, Amazon Associates, eBay, Goodshop, GoodSearchiGive.com, Rescue Chocolate, ResQwalk, and Vegecyber.com to another charity. The rescues that have registered with us are listed on our Ways To Help Us Help Rescues page. We will be removing ourselves from these fundraisers so these rescues can benefit directly instead.
*If you are not signed up for these, please consider doing so- many of them are AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO YOU! You can raise money just by using a search engine or just by walking, for example!*
Thank you!
