I live locally and chose to spend my 50th Birthday with a three day visit to TradeWinds, along with my mother and brother who were visiting from out of state. It was a wonderful experience! The resort was luxurious and the view was breathtaking. The front desk was very friendly and accommodating, making sure our rooms were next to each other. The bell staff and housekeeping departments did a great job taking care of us. I valet parked my car and it was always ready for me between the time I called for it from my room and my arrival at the front drive. Celebrating this "golden" event was all I could have ever dreamed of it being.

Very disappointing. My wife and I decided to spend a night at the beach before our son is born Nov. 1st. I have lived in the area for 10 years and I vacationed on SPB yearly prior to that. I was always under the impression that the Tradewinds was one of the best hotels in the area. I always considered it #2 behind the Don Cesar. For our mini-vacation we decided to spend the extra money (more than double the price of other hotels on the beach) so we could really enjoy our weekend away. What a mistake that was. The entrance to the hotel is somewhat grand and gave a good first impression; the front desk staff was polite as well. After checking in, the disappointment began. Our upgraded room was tiny, smelled musty and had wet, sticky feeling carpet. The 'balcony" was barely large enough to stand with two people, and our view was about 10% ocean, 10% trees, and 80% parking lot/roof tops. We told ourselves it wasn't a big deal because we planned on spending most of our time outside. We made our way downstairs to check out the rest of the 'resort." We found fountains full of leaves, crumbling stucco, pools that were far from clear that I wouldn't allow my pregnant wife to swim in (infections are quite serious at 8 months pregnant). We went to one of the on site restaurants to get lunch- Beef O Bradys. Upon entering the restaurant, no one greeted us. We stood there by the"Please Wait to be Seated" sign for a while before finally walking over to a waiter and asking if we could get some help. He rudely told us to sit where we wanted. Our order came out wrong the first time, the chicken wings were awful, our waiter was no where to be found most of the time. Another bad experience. On the beach we had more bad service from the cabana rental staff. It consisted of a group of young kids that obviously didn't want to be there. They all had bad attitudes and showed no signs of customer service training. I could go on and on about the bad experiences with staff throughout our short stay. The ONLY polite staff were the valets (they work for tips), the front desk staff, and the woman at the Deli in the lobby. Everyone else was rude and unwelcoming. Overall our experience was very negative. I will never stay at the tradewinds again...The Dolphin Beach Resort, Sirata, Alden, or any other similar hotel will be our first choice. They are half the price with nicer staff, larger rooms and better views. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE TRADEWINDS. It was nice 15 years ago, but now it is just run down and disappointing.

When i book a 4 star resort, I expect 4 star service and accommodations. That is not what we found at the TradeWinds Island Grand. If you are good with paying a premium for basically a Holiday Inn with a so-so view, then book a room here. And expect to also pay a "resort fee" even of you do not intend to use any cabanas or the beach. Our first room was tiny and dark with a view of the rear of a service elevator wall. We were able to "upgrade" at a cost to a room with a tiny balcony and a view of the roof of a bar. The room was not very clean - the mirrors over the couch had something all over them - I hesitate to guess what. Obviously they are not cleaned regularly. Overall, if I return to St Pete Beach, I would NOT rebook here. Try Sirata Beach Resort instead.

Many reviews are written by those with a huge sense of entitlement or by those who are just angry to begin with. Neither applies. Just a hard working guy who wanted a 4 star experience for a couple wanting a nice getaway. Food/beverage/hospitality is about making the patron feel good about their experience. Not sure how this establishment got a 4 star rating, but the room I paid $203 for was akin to an old Motel 6. I've never written a review before. Here's our experience. Overall, I would definitely avoid this place. Reservation: After making an online reservation, I called ahead to be assigned a king room. The two bed rooms are full size beds, not queens. We were told that they would put in the request but that they wouldn't guarantee a king room even though the request was well in advance of our stay. Finally after ten minutes on hold a manager said he would put us down for a king room but he made sure I knew that he was doing me a huge favor by doing so. Arrival/parking: Parking is supposed to included in the price. When we arrived we were told that there would be a valet charge but that we could self park. I opted to self park but we were told we needed a parking pass. I went to check in to do so. Waited 27 minutes at the front desk, finally got a room, but we were told that we had to go to another desk and another line for a parking pass. Another 20 minutes in line and it took about ten seconds for them to hand me a pass. Wondered why the front desk couldn't just give us a pass. Went to park the car to find it had been moved and "parked in" by other cars waiting. Took another 25 minutes to move the other cars so I could park. Took me 45 minutes to find a spot in the inadequate lot with narrow spaces. Spaces so narrow that the next day when we left, found that the car had been dented by another car. Room: Finally made it to the room. Certainly not like the photos. There were no windows, no balcony, the door was this old metal door like the ones you'd see at an old motel. Carpet old, walls old, furniture, old. Railings filthy, walkways dirty. The room was dark, small, smelly and outdated. The bathroom was way outdated, small. Went to be assigned to another room but were told that was the standard $203 room and that for more money we could upgrade. The front desk staff were discussing their personal weekend plans and I was just a nuisance to them. The concierge was no help. Bar: The lobby was nice enough. The bar was average, minimal ambience. Told the bartender about what had happened so far. He left for a moment and came back with a card that would give us 20% off food, etc. to compensate for the crummy room. Incidentally, the restaurants, etc. wouldn't honor the card because they said we had the wrong kind of room keycard. Bermuda Restaurant: Went to eat. There were about 30-40 tables in the restaurant, about 90% empty. The host asked us if we had a reservation and that he would have to check availability before giving us a table. The food was average at best. The mojito was great, though. They were out of several items on the menu. Night: Went for a walk around the grounds. Everything was dirty and rather worn, certainly not 4-star. At about 1030p the room next door became really loud and boisterous, no problem, I was a kid once too. But then it became screaming, yelling, loud music and a dog barking constantly. Called the front desk at about midnight. We were told that dogs were not allowed in that part of the hotel. Despite the call the ruckus finally let up at about 3am. The dog barked all night. Checkout: Even though most of the resort amenities were closed down we were charged a resort fee. The man at the front desk, after hearing what had gone refunded the resort fee. By that time I was so beaten down I didn't really care. Bottom Line: This is NOT a four star experience. We won't be going back.

I tried the Jet Lev - Here at the resort, Super Fun! I booked the night before it was $199 for the Jet, it took about 5min to jet ski out to the boat where we quickly go started on what the Jetpack was and how it worked, He hooked me up and i was off, we started very low to the water and slowly work up to the cool stuff, live dolphin dives, Speeding superman style and going 30Ft in the Air which was a bit scary! Something you must try once in your life if you are someone who always wanted your own Jet Pack! Great Staff they make all the difference!

Poor customer service. The staff was rude, short, and generally unhelpful. Incredibly disappointed from the moment we walked in. Two rooms booked simultaneously for a group were not even booked for the same floor.
