"The outside world does not understand Putin's worldview. If Putin is not stopped in Ukraine, he will restore Russia's historical boundaries and incorporate also the Baltic countries and Finland. The sharp warning [comes from] Andrej Illiaronov who for six years was one of Putin's closest advisers."

Priming is exposure to some thing that influences behavior later on, without that individual being aware of the guiding influence.

Two talented friends, Peter McVeigh and Owen Lamont, have come together to create a brilliant fundraiser for the Syrian Crisis Appeal, featuring some of NI's best musicians. Line-up includes Anthony Toner, Farriers, Master and Dog and Seven Summits for a cracking gig on the 11th April in The Belfast Empire. Please share the event widely! And if you can't attend, there's a donation link in the event description. Thanks for your support! #songsforsyria

"More than two years of war in Syria have had a devastating impact on Syrian families, leaving more than 6 million people urgently in need of aid. The Syrian health system has effectively collapsed in many parts of the country, with water supplies cut and food in short supply. Refugees are finding camps stretched to capacity. Even some people who’ve made it to nearby countries are reported to be starving to death. The situation is desperate and heartbreaking.

Working with the ‘Disasters Emergency Committee’ of the Syrian Crisis Appeal, an organization making a real impact in Syria, we’ve assembled a group of very talented musicians like The Farriers, Anthony Tonner, Master & Dog & Seven Summits for a concert on Friday April 11th at The Empire Music Hall Belfast, all of us united in the common cause of helping the Syrian people. Tickets are only £5 in advance or £6 at the door. We urge you to come out, bring your friends and family, for a great night of music as well as prizes and raffles all benefiting an incredibly important cause."

Pick your place wisely at the negotiating table. (Unless you're in charge, in which case they'll come to you...)

So we're getting a new pound coin, based on the old thruppeny bit. This news reminded me of a Granny H-ism: (Giving off about the actions of some man who wasn't awfully tall) "...And him no higher than thruppence worth o' ha'pennies!"

Music

I've been hosting and performing at the Soul Ambition Sofa Sessions since January 2010. After getting invited to move it to the Ulster Hall for their 150th anniversary celebrations in May 2012, local virtuoso Conor Scullion asked "Suitcase" Suzy Coyle and I to start a 'musical collaboration' over the summer. That's turned into a 3-piece band and has been the best adventure - EP to be launched soon, but in the meantime keep track on www.fb.com/tracydempseymusic if you're interested.  You can hear Conor and Suzy's talents at

Over the years I've played with Beat's Beat'N Drum - playing samba, reggae, maracatu, afoxé. (Hope this link works for non-Facebook friends...) Through the Beat Carnival, I've been lucky enough to take part in training by amazing musicians like Grupo Bongar, Moleque da Rua and Monobloco, and participate in carnivals and other performances (like this one in Bologna - as part of 'BelBoBru', a 3-city music/theatre/puppetry collaboration between Belfast, Bologna and Brussels).
