Pegman loved the Botafogo area of Rio de Janeiro where he had a view of Cristo (Christ the Redeemer).

Hello Rio de Janeiro Guias Locais!

Apologies for posting in English but I am afraid my Duolingo classes haven't yet made me proficient in speaking pt-br. :)

I'm going to be in town this week staying near Ipanema and wondered if anyone had any recommendations? I'd love to meet up with those of you who live there but fear I won't have a ton of free time.

Thank you in advance and hope to meet you all in the future! :)

Buy a NYC apartment for $50...

...but you can't live in it because it's part of the NYC panorama at the Queens Museum of Art: http://goo.gl/ZXHUvX.
Affordable housing that you can't actually live in.

Elora's is now under new ownership and while the food is the same, the staff (save for one long time employee) and experience isn't as good as it once was. That being said, the fajitas are still delicious (and half the size) and you can't eat a meal here without having the salsa and guacamole. Visit during the warmer months when outdoor seating is available.

This place is a diamond in the rough that is Coney Island Avenue. The corner spot has both a bar area, seating in the front and a back room that's perfect for corralling families on the weekend. I came here for brunch and enjoyed a Hofbrau along with the beef goulash and spatzle. The staff is super friendly, attentive and boy, do they know how to cook! Note: They only accept cash or american express.

I was early for dinner nearby and stopped in for a manicure, but stepped out in heaven. Hannah did a great job on my manicure in under 20 minutes, but the real standout was Justin's 10 minute massage. I'm definitely returning for another massage. The salon is clean, they're friendly and check your coats for you upon arrival. Prices are a bit higher than I'm used to, even in Manhattan.

This is a giant airport that can be a bit tricky to navigate upon departure, so be sure to look for your airline's name before allowing your driver to drop you off at your terminal as they seem to all be shared. It's rather clean and has a ton of shops/food options. Pro: There is free WiFi but you have to visit the log-in page to accept the terms before accessing it. It's way better than the American Airlines Admirals Lounge WiFi.

This is a standard Subway location that is a bit smaller than the area calls for since the place is always packed with nearby hospital employees and students. Salads are, however, hit and miss.

I dined at Shun Lee during NYC Restaurant Week and would gladly return for another meal here at full price. If you get soup, an entree, dessert and a glass of wine, expect to spend upwards of $75/person with normal prices. The Chan Do chicken is amazing; crispy, spicy and sweet at the same time with a sauce that will have you wanting to lick the plate. Appetizers are served family style (so if that's not what you want, be sure to tell them in advance). I loved the chicken shoon lettuce wraps and soupy pork dumplings. I almost wanted to order MORE dumplings, they were so good. Service goes between being very attentive and MIA, but the staff is friendly. The decor can't be beat and while it's more upscale than most sit-down Chinese restaurants in NYC, you'll feel comfortable in casual attire. Note: There is both a coat check and restroom attendant, so bring cash for tips.

Shop Rite is my go-to destination for "big" food shopping or when I want better priced-meat than my local grocery store. The store is almost always packed, so if you can go at 7am or really late at night, that's your best bet. Prices are cheaper than most local shops and their meat selection is insane. They also have hearty ethnic food offerings.
