A rather large part of me wants to use Road Rash 2’s theme for my Giant Bomb GT streams, but then I’d need a low-res pixelized image of two RUFs screaming down a road, with their drivers swinging a chain whip and a billy club at each other through their windows.

Given that I’m barely decent at pasting logos onto car liveries, that might be a little beyond my talents.
The largest Giant Bomb Racing League field yet takes on the furiously fast Watkins Glen for 45 minutes in a Giant Bomb GT sprint race. Witness embarrassing lap one mistakes, #esports domination, and the launch of a bright green RUF into space!

Rally cars can't run on dirt when it's wet, apparently.

What a load of crap. I watched footage of the practice in these conditions, and there was just a bunch of sliding around at low speeds. Might not have been great racing -- certainly would've been hectic and slow -- but it appeared possible. The Global Rallycross Championship continues to be quite the joke as they run into situations like this, despite continued efforts to find some semblance of validity. Given its depressing roster of former X Games stunt athletes, that shouldn't be too surprising.

Ah well. At least the Australian V8 Supercars are putting on a good show in Texas.

Along with a few friends, I attended the 2013 North American International Auto Show earlier today. Naturally, lots of pictures of questionable quality were taken.

Saved for posterity, since there's no way I'm holding onto the top of this leaderboard once Rock Band Blitz is officially released tomorrow.

Also, Rock Band World is literally the only use I currently have for Facebook outside of contests. I guess it's not a bad system.

I might be on a bit of an iRacing tear lately, but have I mentioned just how ungodly expensive it can get? I paid a significantly discounted rate for two years of service, but stepping up to the next level is going to cost me even more.

The rabbit hole of sim racing runs deep.
Day 27: June 20th, 2013My short rookie season is coming to an end. It’s time for some thought. Here’s a video recapping my time at Lime Rock for week 3

Yeah, I'm still blogging and recording videos about iRacing. This blog's a bit of a weird downer, as I rambled at 3 AM about some less than ideal performances from me.

The next blog will be about successes from Saturday evening (and hopefully beyond). I'm looking forward to recording that.
Day 15: June 8th, 2013There comes a time where, despite all the racing games I’ve played and all the accomplishments I’ve managed in games like Forza

It's not a blog about my top 100 racing games or playing through my depressingly large backlog, but I'm starting to write about what could, perhaps, be my biggest purchasing mistake of all.

I'm hoping to eventually start capturing video of this soul-crushing affair.
I suppose it was inevitable. My love for driving games is pretty obvious to anyone who watches my typical behavior on the site. I could rattle off a bu

Enjoying the reward of the second Kickstarter I backed. This is quite the cool pint glass, even if it's perhaps five months late.

So, funny story about DiRT Showdown. Picked it up for $10, and I don't think it's worth much more than that, given this annoying little issue.

Starting up in the first race, I'm given this slick demo derby cutscene, and then released to finish the race. I accelerate, and...my car slows down to a maximum speed of 20 MPH. Using boost, I'm hitting maybe 30 MPH. Thinking maybe the controls are messed up, I jump into the options, and check my button configuration. Everything's fine, but when I try to save, I get an "invalid controller setup" error. Backing out and "reverting" to the previous setup, I'm still reaching top speeds suitable for residential neighborhoods.

The car's simply not shifting out of first. Once I realize this, it hits me.

Xbox 360 profiles have game defaults, which are really nice when you want to have default settings across a genre. For racing, I prefer acceleration/braking on the triggers, in-car cameras, and...manual transmission.

DiRT Showdown only has automatic transmission.

Yes, because I have my 360 profile's preference set to manual transmission, Showdown gave me manual transmission. It just didn't give me a way to shift gears, and when I'd enter the button configuration menu, it'd expect me to assign buttons to non-existent options of shift up and shift down, hence the invalid setup issues.

I've since fixed the problem, but for a while there, DiRT Showdown was in the running for the best first-gear-only racing game of all time. It's an insanely daft oversight for Codemasters. Maybe their best people really did go to Playground Games.
