"When I was still in middle school, I was involved in debate. Debate was all about winning, about saying something so others are unable to respond. Then in my freshman year, I found Generation Global, an online community that supports dialogue among students all over the world...I decided that this was not something I wanted to do as an extracurricular activity—this was a guiding principle that I wanted to incorporate into my whole educational journey".

In 2016, we saw the conflict in Yemen mired in a bloody status quo and the balance tipping in President Bashar al-Assad's favour in Syria after five years of civil war. ISIS lost territory across the Middle East and North Africa, but affiliated attackers killed hundreds elsewhere. Political votes pointed to a shift in the trajectory of our globalised world.
