This seems like a reasonable measure to deal with Political spending by Corporations - require disclosure in quarterly earnings. Detail who they have money to and what they are lobbying for/against.

"Increased regulation by activist unelected officials". Still seems unlikely to fly.

Terraflop computing for under $600???!!! (three $192 units at 300 gigaflops each)

This is 'a supercomputing version of Raspberry Pi.'  At $192, the kit is programmable using CUDA and includes all the ports one might expect to see, comprised of a 192-core Kepler GPU, an ARM Cortex A15 CPU and 300 gigaflops of performance.

Well, that happened... Wasn't even aware this case was being argued, but it is surprising the government even bothered to go to court arguing that a law that specifically said "State exchange" should also mean "Federal exchange".

Once again Administration is overreaching and worse, failing to understand the implications of its actions.  The current legal state of cloud services and subpoenas restricts a countries request to data residing within the country making the request.  The Obama administration is attempting to turn this on its head.

If the administration's argument is held valid (that the US can ask for data from any server located anywhere) then it could hardly object or complain when other countries claim the same right.

Currently, many US Government organizations now host their email, documents, etc in commercial clouds - under the requirement that the data be kept in a private "government cloud" that resides solely within the U.S.  If their argument is upheld, then any Government could demand that any business doing operations in there (Microsoft, Yahoo, Facebook, Google, etc) could be forced to turn over "US Gov cloud" documents and emails to a Foreign Government.  The same could be requested of business doing sensitive Government defense work while using hosted services, such as Boeing, Ball aerospace, etc.

Spying would become stupid simple - just issue a warrant.

US says global reach needed to gut "fraudsters," "hackers," and "drug dealers."

+Scott Wertz But the US Government just spent all this time and effort demanding companies create "gov" clouds that physically reside in the US.

Where the data resides is, IMHO, just as relevant for bytes as it is for physical papers.

Finally, having dealt with (and denied) crazy over-reaching foreign governments that have made similar claims/requests, I can say we definitely do not want to set precedence here. We may get some terrorist email, but other countries will ask for the whole burrito on practically everyone else.
