The USAF Thunderbirds - New York Airshow
Taking with a 10 year old Panasonic G2 and 45-200mm lens. I feel the old camera still takes a reasonable shot.

When should you leave your Oly/Panny at home?

I never thought I would ever do this, but on my trip to New York I have started to leave the cameras in the hotel room safe. I deliberately brought a Panasonic GF8 with me for convenience, however even that is starting to become a little inconvenient. With heightened security and cloakroom checks it is a lot easier to travel without a traditional bag full of stuff photographic or otherwise (maybe just one of those fold up reusable bags for souvenirs).

Today I had planned to visit art galleries and museums. Instead of taking the GF8 I just took my smartphone. I rarely get good photos at these places anyway. The photographer is thwarted by tricky lighting, photographically unfriendly subjects, reflective glass; the list goes on. Smartphones usually have a 28mm equivalent lens and a digital zoom that will allow for reasonable shots to use online. I found while the images will not win any prizes, they will serve well as a visual notebook of the places I visited. Even shots in dark places are usable if you don't pixel peep.

I will still be bringing out both the Panasonic GF8 and an old G2 (that I brought for airshows) but only when convenient.

Oblivious at The Met
I noticed this guy a few times around the gallery and he was fascinated with something on his phone (maybe he was playing the medieval game Clash Royale). I reckon he could have stayed at home and saved himself the admission price.

As many members know I have sporadic posts titled Those who I admire. Imagine how pleased I was to find these two inspirational women on the Spirit of Inspiration wall at Disneyland.
The third is Rosa Parks.

As much as I don't like being herded through airports (who does) I always enjoy watching the workings of them.

"Lieutenant Gerald Hamley, at your (library) service"
Beaut presents from wonderful friends.
Gerald was named after the dad of a wonderful family that adopted me for the afternoon when I visited LA: good times.

Giving the Panasonic 25mm f1.7 a run. It's possibly the best value lens you can get for MFT.
