Torchbearer  -

The Borderlands Campaign I

I thought it would be a good idea to share some notes from the first Torchbearer session with you guys.

Adventuring Party

Alexa played Frida. A human warrior who doesn't trust what she can't see.
Michael played Chansom d'Fricitive. A halfling burglar who believes that celebrations make life grand.
Alfred played Ezekial. A Human Cleric who carries the well-being of the Hanging Garden's bastion on his shoulders.

The Burial Mound of Folshomm

The adventurers went to the Burial Mound of Folshomm to look into the disappearance of a pilgrim. (As well as the appropriation of any misplaced loot.) The tumulus is used by the people of the town of Folshomm to inter their dead as part of a ritual they call the swallowing.

When the adventurers began exploring the tunnels inside the tumulus, they discovered that a tribe of goblins had moved in...

Goals

The group came up with the following goals:

- Frida: Observe the "Swallowing" ritual.
- Chansom d'Frictive: Meet Ifram, dead or alive.
- Ezekial: I'll get 3 goal pieces.

Now that Grad School is finally behind me, it's time to start writing cover letters. Let the job search begin!

Btw, please let me know if you know of any open entry level health information technology, QA,  or web design positions. Any lead is appreciated.

Torchbearer  -

The Borderlands Campaign

Hey everybody,

So I'm finally kicking off that Torchbearer game I've been talking about for almost a year.

I'm planning to run on August 9 at 1:00pm

I started building a campaign world around some of the ideas and concepts of the B2: Keep on the Borderlands module for Basic Dungeons & Dragons.

There is The Realm which is the bastion of Law. The wilderness is where darkness and chaos lurk. The Keep stands at the edge of both.

We'll make up the rest of the world as the game progresses.

Let me know if you are interested in playing.

I really need to re-read the book before our next game. I was pretty amazed at how little I remembered of the game rules.

Torchbearer  -

Fear & Loathing in the Borderlands

Hello everybody,

I'd like to run a short Torchbearer campaign. Hopefully you guys would be interested in playing again.

Here's what I'm thinking about, fiction-wise:

1- The game will be set in the Borderlands, where the noble families that frolic in the Old City have a little influence, very bad men make more gains every day, and hell vomits its horrors in the dark of night.
2-Home base is called Hobb's End, the last busy crossroad before the untamed western lands.
3- First adventure will take place in a nunnery where something horrible happened.
4- The Bleak Mountains and the Desolate Swamp aren't far off.

Here's what i'm thinking about, administration-wise:
1- I'm only allowing 3-4 players. Looking back, running for 6 people was kind of insane
2- I'm allowing a bunch of classes: The ones in the core rules, the 2 extra classes ( Thief & Paladin) and the 4 wanderer classes released recently. ( Assassin, Barbarian, Half-elf bard, Druid, Monk, Strider.)
3- I'm thinking about kicking this off on July 12 or July 19.
4- This would be a mini-campaign. I'm thinking 6 to 7 sessions.

Obviously, there's no pressure to play or anything. I wanted to run this by you guys before setting this up as a meetup

Let me know what you guys think.

Thank you all for playing tonight! I'm slowly realizing that I made a bunch of small errors and mistakes, but hopefully everybody had as great a time as I did!

Cool!

There was lot's of laughter and ouchs and uhhhhs during the session, so I think that everybody had a great time.

I think things went relatively smoothly considering that we had 6 players and gm who is still kind of green.

I think I caught the Run/Play Torchbearer virus. (Probably at the Skogenby hotel.) So I'll try to get some people together to try to play a brand new, all original campaign in a few weeks.

Sagely Advice  -

breaking down doors

I was wondering how do you guys handle breaking doors down.

I'm thinking about testing Health. And modeling the skill factors on picking locks.

For example: simple door, decent door or rusted simple door, etc...

Just Burn It. Ancient timbers burn awful smoky dotcha know? (dungeon-wise). Smoke the monsters out of their holes into your cunningly devised choke where the dwarf / fighter can lay them low with vicious precision. Nothing like fear of burning to death for a +1D advantage.

LotFP Adventures and Session Reports  -

So...my buddies told them they wanted me to run Lamentations of the Flame Princess yesterday. I gave it some thought and told them:

Spain, 1699. You got a letter from your younger brother imploring you to came back to Rodrigo Manor, your ancestral home. A weird doom has befallen your father and his estate.

I'm running this in a couple of hours. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

I owe you guys an update!

The PCs were brothers.  They were both low-ranking members of the spanish inquisition. One was an interrogator (Cleric) the other his helper (secretly a Magic-User). They started the game with two retainers.

I'll share the ultimate fates of the characters:

The Cleric and the two retainers were stabbed to death by highway men while pursuing a red herring.

The Magic-User was killed by a dead relative in the catacombs under the manor house.

The manor house itself was destroyed by the younger brother (who was taken up as an PC during the session). He set it on fire after seeing the things lurking below.
