Tip: whenever possible, plot US data on maps by county rather than state. The data density is higher (that is, better) and almost always tells a more intriguing story. The only downside is that such images, when projected onto a screen in presentation, may be difficult to appreciate from the back of the room.

"Microsoft is right. Windows is for people who create, produce, work. That may not make it interesting, but it does make it important, and it’s the reason why the operating system won’t disappear anytime soon."
When it comes to productivity, Microsoft is right; Windows is the best operating system for those who do. Nothing compares to Windows in the workplace.

If you click "Next Slide" in PPT, what happens (normally) is that the audience sees the next slide.

Amazingly, in this inexpensive, homebrew, teacher-designed setup, clicking "Next Slide" creates the next layer of solid polymer for a 3-D printer.
When it comes to 3D printing within the classroom environment, there are some teachers who welcome it with open arms, while there are others who are deathly afr

A rare, excellent application of data in three dimensions. (Don't bother with Excel's 3D charts unless you are giving viewers selection of perspective along x, y, and z axes.)

"Microsoft is bringing previews of its universal Office apps -- Word, Excel and Powerpoint -- to Windows smartphones. The new apps will come to the Windows 10 Technical Preview for Windows phones in late April and will offer a taste of Office 2016, and yet another glimpse at Microsoft's plans to make Windows 10 the 'Everywhere OS.' Windows 10 is set to officially launch sometime this summer." -- CNET

Level-headed, simple advice.
Presentations in the real-world are nothing like what we see online. And most of those presentations you’re reading can make you think some crazy stuff. I’m here to set the record straight, so here’s 6 myths that internet presentations teach you that you should probably avoid.

The Golden Ratio takes a big punch to the jaw..

"It's not in our DNA to be comfortable with arbitrary things like aesthetics, so we try to back them up with our often limited grasp of math. But most people don't really understand math, or how even a simple formula like the golden ratio applies to complex system, so we can't error-check ourselves."
The golden ratio is total nonsense in design. Here's why.

Infographic of the day: explanation of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO on photographs. Excellent application of Tufte's design concept of "small multiples."
This picture helps you understand how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO interplay to produce excellent photos.
