Now I can have a bacon burger without hurting a cow or a pig.
Dr Mark Post, the chair of the department of physiology and professor of vascular physiology and tissue engineering at Maastricht University, is aiming not only to improve the taste of his lab-grown burger, but to make it available to mainstream markets in the future, according to the presentation he gave at Where Science Feeds Innovation expo in Chicago on July 12.

I don't care what they say.  To me, Pluto is still a planet.
"Fasten your seat belts — New Horizons has arrived at the Pluto System." Those were the words of Alan Stern, New Horizons' principal investigator, at this morning's briefing. After more than nine...

We have so many mosquitoes that there is an interactive map to track them.
Heading outdoors? Need repellent? Find out with our interactive map showing the number mosquitoes caught in traps around the city.

This is key to eventually living on Mars. Build stuff first.
From lifesaving implants to cutting edge fashion, 3D printing is the gift that keeps on giving. What will this additive technology do next? Well, 3D print a steel bridge in mid-air, of course.

Don't be so impractical.  It makes no sense to build one long bridge.  We would two half bridges, one from either end.  Watch that middle step....she's a doozy.

Good luck landing this one, SpaceX
This Sunday, a routine SpaceX launch could turn revolutionary, as the spaceflight company tries for a third time to safely land its Falcon 9 rocket after takeoff. The uncrewed booster will be...

OK.  Maybe we don't have to worry about robotic overlords quite yet.
After years of work, the highly-anticipated DARPA Robotics Challenge Finals are here. Some of the world's most advanced robots are duking it out for the chance at the first place prize: $2 million....

The other day, I heard part of a discussion about how people feel sorry for the robots, because they have human-like forms.  Sympathy could go a long way to getting people to side with the overlords.  :-)

Geek and computer guy in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Introduction
I'm a dad and a computer geek living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Our summers typically hit 40C and our winters often hit -40C so I like to spend as much of my winter vacation as possible walking that beach pictured at the top of my profile.  That strip of sand is located in  Nuevo Vallarta just north of Puerto Vallarta.

This restaurant is a hidden gem that you could easily walk or drive right by without seeing it. It is nestled into the corkscrew ramp of a parking lot! Once you turn onto Garry from Portage, it is immediately on your let. It only has 14 diner style stools around a curved counter so seating and atmosphere are very casual. Famena serves up an amazing roti. You choose your meat and vegetable fillings which are wrapped in a buttery flavored home made roti wrapper. Depending on the time of year, it comes with either a salad or a bowl of soup. It is well worth the hunt to find this restaurant if you like roti.

This is the first stop on the mutant food tour. Awesomely delicious and huge burgers. It is pricey so it is best to bring a group and order one of the monster burgers as you get more for your money. Just seeing one of these bad boys in person makes the price reasonable.
