J.T. O'Donnell, CEO of CAREEREALISM, published the best article / LinkedIn post I've ever read about customizing and personalizing LinkedIn Invitations and requesting a connection. If more people followed her advice, we would all be much more successful (and differentiating) in our networking activities. #linkedin   #careeradvice   #careertips
One of the reasons I like LinkedIn is because I can reach out and connect with strangers more successfully than on some other social media platforms. I can use some good old fashion professional communication skills to connect and build new - and more importantly, meaningful relationships.A Customized Intro Is A Must-DoThe secret to getting strangers to connect with you on LinkedIn is your introduction. You must, I repeat, YOU MUST, customize eac...

When you've been the king for so long, you believe your own self-invincibilty. There's a one word case study for that: BlackBerry.
Read an excerpt from the forthcoming book “Losing the Signal” on RIM’s efforts to take on Apple’s game-changing iPhone.

My friend Sharon McMillen Cannon wrote this great article about the value of public speaking in our professional careers. It's an important read and valuable read. You won't be disappointed!
What’s your goal when you step up to speak? Winning that next big piece of business, getting that hard-earned promotion, or becoming known as a mover and s

Fast Company's Harry McCracken wrote this thoughtful article on how Marissa Mayer is transforming #Yahoo . Her critics still (and will continue) counting her out. But, she's demonstrating something all great leaders do: You find creative ways to incrementally move your company and "play the cards you are dealt."   #ceo   #leadership
Almost three years in, Mayer's Yahoo is still a work in progress. But it's made real progress in reinventing itself for the smartphone era.

This is a brilliant article by my LinkedIn friend, Katie Carroll. She's the real deal. Think before you judge members of a younger generation. Listen because you may learn something important. I've learned tons from Millennials (voiced in my comment in Katie's post).
This post was written as part of the #MillennialMe series, which is tied to LinkedIn’s new student editorial calendar. Follow the stories here or write your own.Mary Meeker's Internet trends report is, as usual, full of rich insights. Internet usage is slowing; mobile advertising is a multi-billion-dollar opportunity; technology is fundamentally transforming not just how efficiently we work, but how we work. In the hours since it was uploaded, th...

Here's the math on how much market value Twitter lost yesterday after Selerity live tweeted the company's financial data before Twitter's 2015 Q1 Earnings Conference Call: 1) Cost Per Tweet: $1 billion. 2) $100 million lost per minute. 3) $1,666,666 lost per second.

Jim, the sales manager at your Store Number: 028584, is outstanding. I spent almost $700 in new tire purchases and installation work with his store. His team not only performed EXCELLENT work, but he also alerted me to a rebate offer to help me achieve some additional savings. That's HUGE. I sent in the rebate information, and look forward to the assistance it will provide in defraying some of the cost. More importantly, Jim provided amazing customer service. People (like Jim) in the service industry are rare. You're lucky to have him as a member of The Firestone Team.
