'Grande finale' of my 5x2x40km bike commuting week today. I have never commuted by bike this much in a week before. I felt a bit tired yesterday and today.

To +Matt Campbell and all other cargo / haulin' bike enthusiasts, I did a bit of detective work: here is the Surly Big Dummy I mentioned in a comment recently. I shared this here in March 2012 for the first time.

After seeing Matt's Yuba I started to think about Big Dummy again. Yet another bike project wouldn't make much sense as I have 8 bikes at the moment and retro road bike project (just building one old steel frame with the parts already in my garage) in the works. One option would be to buy Xtracycle FreeRadical (or the forthcoming The Leap) and use the old winter bike frame (an aluminum 26" hardtail) with it. But for me, Big Dummy is the real deal.

Fat commuting

After overhauling the rear hub yesterday, and changing rear derailleur pulleys, I decided to commute with the older 9:ZERO:7. Had to hurry a bit in the morning so I was pretty fast, averaging 27.3 km/h (39.7 km distance). And I was lucky with the rain showers. Nice weather in the evening.

Weighed my older 907, 17 kg without rear rack, 17.580 kg with the rear rack. My race-907 is a lot lighter. Any G+ link to your Yuba setup +Matt Campbell, I'm really interested on all sorts of bikes.

Sunset photoride

During the Levi24 / Lapland-Tromsø trip my 3-year old Nikkor AF-S 18-55mm f/1:3.5-5.6 VR lens broke. I recently purchased a new lens, Tamron AF18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] Macro. I have done so much sunset photography at the same place because it's next to my home. I love the concept of 'photocycling', which I have done when commuting and on bikepacking trips, so I decided to ride and take sunset photos this evening with the new lens. Here are the results.

The Last Chance of the Summer

I did a short overnighter last weekend, here's the blog report of it.
After ITI I was busy with training for Levi24 (race report still to come) and with everyday working duties. The last overnighter was with my friends to celebrate my ITI finish in late March/early April. This summer has been v...

A FAT kickbike from Finland, Kickbike Fat Max, looks good. Maybe snowshoes could be good idea with it on soft snowmbile tracks. :)

Rear hub overhaul

I finally decided to do overhaul on my Shimano XT FH-M756 rear hub, from the older 9:ZERO:7 fatbike. It's been in use from May 2011. The non-drive side is still in good condition. The drive-side outer cone is slightly damaged, but after putting new bearings and grease it feels much better. Freehub feels pretty good but I will overhaul it the next time. This kind of overhaul is fairly easy and doesn't take that much time. Highly recommened for all the home bike mechanics and bike enthusiasts.

July commuting

After a few 'hot' days (+25...+26°C) in the first week of July, we are back to cool and rainy weather here in Finland. There have been some nice days in between, like today, but rainy weather has been very persistent this summer here. Tomorrow and maybe Wednesday are forecasted to be dry but after that it looks like the misery will be on its way.
