Not convinced.  Just anyone in any of the other developed nations with "socialized" (ie. sane) health care how they feel enslaved because of it.  Try to take it away and they will bite your arm off!  Sure everyone has their pet peeves about their health care system, but ask anyone in the US how they can access the worlds best health care immediately without delays and unless they are in the 1% they will say "well, eventually, if I can persuade them at point of law it is necessary".

Trust me having spent about 20 years in both systems I can say that there isn't anything so special about the US system other than it's ability to make money at the expense of patient wealfare.  When it comes down to it who are you going to trust? The doctor who's early retirement and tee-time depends on maximizing the return on his treatments, or someone who's pay actually depends on maximizing his patient health outcomes?

So my son, 6 years old, had a really bad attack of pain. His belly hurt, and the pain was extreme. He was screaming and knowing how tough he normally is we called 911 to get him to the hospital. The operator told us that since it is not life-threatening (I want that cristal ball), they can only send one in several hours. Not wanting to take any risks, we packed him in our car and drove to a hospital 5 min from our house. The photo shows what I saw in front of the emergency.

I barely use our health system, and therefore I do not know what to say to make it work for me. I'm sure heavy users can get an ambulance whenever they want.

So much for the "free" health system.

Canadians want a bed when they are in hospital?  Unless you have a Gold Card you'll have to make do with a card board box down here...

So when you talked to the operator did you say the magic words "It's an emergency"... Really an operator has no business triaging requests for medical assistance.  How do they know he didn't have peritonitis which requires immediate treatment?  Or maybe he swallowed a battery and didn't tell you?  (I'm not saying he did, just that an operator has no clue).  I think this is unlikely to happen in the US because every operator would be afraid of getting sued every which way... and as I said the ambulances will come to anyone who can pay for it.

I had an air ambulance ride once, sure it showed up quickly but the bill was $34,000 for a 7 minute ride.  Thank goodness I didn't have to pay for it in the end but for a month of so the insurance company would not say it was covered.  For a $50 yearly fee the air ambulance company said they would cover me 100% independently.  So you do the math and work out who is making a fortune here from our paid-for vs. "free" services you have in Canada.

I think your example just shows there were probably ambulances available, just whoever is prioritizing got it oh so wrong - my guess is a lot of people are in ambulances for non 911 calls because they know they are free.  Need a ride home from hospital - take the ambulance - here they wheel you out to a taxi as soon as you come around from the anesthetic and can say your credit card number :-)

What's the point ? It's not that the guy is gonna be productive, or helpful after you've forced him to stay... What is this ? Slavery ?

So, just booked a flight for my mother in law on expedia.ca. What really irked me was that I was asked to enter the TSA Secure Flight Info on a flight from Montreal to Munich on Lufthansa. I can't stand TSA and I do everything possible to avoid flying through US or on US airlines etc to minimize my exposure to TSA. For some reason however, expedia.ca decided it will collect all passengers info for TSA regardless of whether or not the customer is flying over US or not. Anyone knows any other reliable website I could use instead of expedia that does not do it ?

Totally agree with him. Only fair system is the one in which your influence depends on your social contribution. As it is now, those who actively finance a country have very little say on how is it run.
