So I decided to give LinkedIn blogging a whirl and this is my first post. OK, so it's a repost of something I wrote a couple of years ago but it seemed appropriate.
So I've decided to give LinkedIn's blogging feature a whirl and I thought I'd start by reblogging this post I'd written for the Ideas Shop blog over two years ago. Some of it's a little dated (the Law

This post is funny. But the comments are hilarious. Are there that many people out there that didn't get the joke?

An update of +Chris Noble's really useful time series of the Cook Straight quakes. To my untrained eye it looks like today's M4.9 might be an aftershock in the 21 July M6.5 quake sequence rather than a new quake with its own aftershock sequence. #eqnz

Updated earthquake time series plots for the Cook Strait area after feeling a few wobbles today.

What's the best DIY pay-for-access Wi-Fi hotspot system to use in New Zealand? Is Tomizone the way to go?

+Jim Baltaxe I didn't get any useful replies but I did stumble on Zenbu, which may be worth looking at.

The grass is always greener on the other side. Except when it's blue.

This is a fascinating look at the linguistic subjectivity of colours.

In which I admit to nostalgia for printed newspapers but still look forward to the emerging digital news reality (even though we don't know what it might look like).

Comments welcome!

In our latest blog post, +Tomas Kriha discusses the mainstream media's journey from printed newspapers to digital channels following last week's Fairfax announcement.
I have a confession to make: I have the occasional nostalgic pang of grief at the loss of printed newspapers. I grew up browsing through The Evening Post (my father took The Dominion to work) and lazi...

+*****: it's almost three years since Google+ launched. Why is there still no support for personal Google+ profiles in HootSuite?

Maybe. But they should be giving users the choice how to manage their channels. Brands using social media well will post different updates on different channels. Google+ should understand many will want the convienience of using a dashboard tool like HootSuite to monitor and manage them all from the same place with effective workflow tools. As a result, I hardly use Google+ despite loving its design and features. And I suspect many others are the same and as a result our friends aren't on Google+ either. It's a vicious cycle.

One of the better visualisations of #eqnz quakes.

In the last 5 days there has been 1300+ earthquakes in the Cook Strait area. Here's a quick time series from the M5.7 on Friday morning to 9am this morning. #eqnz #quake #earthquake

Should we be worried that RNZ's transmitters are designed to fail when we'll need them in an emergency? Looks like we'll be relying on Twitter for news after the big one. If we've still got mobile reception.

Last para in the story below: "Circuit breakers at Radio New Zealand's transmitter in Titahi Bay knocked out broadcasts on the AM network in the Wellington area for 45 minutes during the shake."
