Why don't brands think like suitors courting a damsel?
As Fats Waller wrote, brands should "Find out what they like, and how they like; then give them what they want, and when they want it.

It's not #advertising, it's not #contentmarketing, it's Branded Content, and big brands are doing it masterfully.

Can you?
Why would a brand take the time to rent media, when they can own it?

If you're a startup and haven't answered these 6 questions, your launch may be doomed to failure.
Many companies start up…but only brands launch. There is a huge difference — and a gaping strategic chasm — between launching a startup, and launching that startup successfully into market. But let’s start back at the beginning. Let’s clear away some brush with a little definition of terms. Most people tend to think of a …

Point/counterpoint: When the "retro" angle becomes outdated and stale.

How to do it right...and where it goes wrong...
How to use nostalgia correctly when creating an authentic and engaging brand experience for the customer.

"The winners are at the poles. High-end luxury brands and deep discount stores are offering dichotomous shopping experiences that appeal to the economic identities of today's consumers." [VIDEO]
Dearly Beloved… We are gathered here today to say goodbye to middle class America and the consumer habits that go along with it. It doesn’t take an economic genius to see that the income gap in the United States has grown to a level that affects each and every one of us. A level that is forever changing the retail Continue Reading

Surprise surprise! #Millennials  are NOT the most influential market demographic.

Who is may surprise you...
It's Generation X If you're even a casual observer of the advertising industry, you've likely heard and read countless examples of brands trying re-orient their brand strategies around the newest, sexiest, largest demographic — one that is altering the very nature of the relationship between brand and consumer. Of course, they're talking about Millennials, those 20-somethings that grew up in a Continue Reading

It's time to totally rethink your #advertising strategy, and how you target audiences.
The Game's Changed, and You're Going to Love It If you're over the age of 40, you remember a time in the not-too-distant past in which advertisers would target audiences in tribes. The name of the game was to identify your target audience, find a medium — say, television, newspaper, radio or magazine — in which a great density of Continue Reading

"The fact is, getting a consumer to part with their hard-earned money in exchange for your product or service requires a slow, steady and constant chipping-away against a natural and ingrained aversion that consumer has to parting with said dollar. It's not easy, and it's not instant."
Advertisers Ignore Their Own Behaviors at Their Own Peril Why is it that advertisers tend to ignore everything they know about their own personal shopping habits when trying to assess whether marketing and advertising works? Let me explain... How Shoppers Shop Too often in search of the silver bullet that delivers instant gratification, companies embarking on a new advertising Continue Reading

Digital killed the radio star? Not so much...
Not so fast, my friends. There are many — mostly digital marketers and agencies — who have been proclaiming the era of traditional media over...for years now, in fact. But I came across this video that should be a sobering tale of caution to marketers, agencies and their clients who are giving into the temptresses disguising themselves as "inbound marketing," Continue Reading

Introduction
Mr. Nixon is the former emperor of a small nation known then as Alabama. Since those times, much has changed, including recipes for Borscht. He once had a dream in which spiders were stealing his cabbage and selling it for hooch money, but awoke to learn merely that he was out of hooch (and cabbage, ironically...but had plenty of spiders). His interests include music, literature, politics, fine dining and yelling derisive comments at pigeons in the public square. Many frequent his blogs to learn of his travels through Nairobi, and gain much insight from his musings and scrib-notes, including the proper temperature at which to broil mini-muffins. For a "real-time" account as to the whereabouts of his undergarments, please return to this site frequently. Admission is free on Friday afternoons.
