The drones vs. droids war... will soon be coming to your home?
The eCommerce supply chain is in a technology renaissance with the large online retailers racing (which is faster, a drone or droid? reminds me of the hawk vs hare...) to develop systems and devices to give them the elbow room to move into the lead or should I say the least cost in end to end handling for order fulfillment.
There are huge benefits for speed and versatility for each device. There are also huge liability/safety concerns but it that also exists for traditional (manual) last mile delivery systems. It's going to be an interesting next few years as government regulations decide worst case scenarios of droid or drone what if scenarios. What if my drone collides with your drone and the resultant debris field needs to be cleaned up? What if my child collides with your droid while riding their bicycle? What if my automobile is damaged by your droid when I am making a turn? I could go on and on...
I'd like to state, I am in full support of these new devices and technology in general. My living is made by selling technology into fast paced distribution centers, so I may be biased but for eCommerce to grow, some other way of last mile delivery will need to be implemented or our roads will be clogged with delivery vehicles. Even when OmniChannel is a viable option consumers still like to have their packages delivered to their place of choice, usually their home.
BTW, those of us in the Great White North are off tomorrow, celebrating our Canada Day, 149 years of confederation, so this is an early cheer to your celebrations!!

I have a strong belief in family and friendship. I guess you can call me one of those technical and information junkies and I just adore my sales career here at PSI Engineering. I have a very strong belief in ethics and responsibility of self. You may think it romantic but I believe that we are the government and that our elected representatives work for us. I have played for and coached both hockey and baseball teams. I have not found a sport that I didn't like but hockey (probably because I am Canadian) is my favourite. Other interest include; travel, photography, gardening, sun rises, sun sets, community and friendship.
