Good or Bad? Progressive or Restrictive?

This is a little like the affirmative action programs in the USA but for gender.  Germany is implementing law(s) to up the female "C" level population to 30% by 2016. The top corporations' boards now average ~80%. My theory is that many of these companies will just pad the boards with female drones to up the average, which is counter productive to business commerce. Business today (capitalism) is the true Darwinian theory in action. We see no-name companies rise to greatness (look at FB) and other giants fall (Kodak, need I say more) not unlike the buggy-whip manufactures. It is actually the common everyday people with their monetary vote who determine the makeup of BOD in the business world. I'm not saying governments should stay out of businesses completely but too many restrictions may cause the economy to become unhealthy and this initiative may be one of them. Thoughts?
From 2016, women must hold 30 percent of corporate board positions in some of Germany's biggest listed companies. The agreement on a legal quota came after talks among Chancellor Angela Merkel's coalition parties.

Air Canada Athlete of the Year Finalists Need Your Vote!

I'm a big fan of curling so I couldn't help but vote for Jennifer Jones with here outstanding (undefeated) performance at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Good Luck Jennifer!

Now it's your turn to vote and maybe win a couple of AC tickets to a destination in North America. Wouldn't LA or Miami be a nice place to visit in the winter...?
Dear Thomas Napier,. The Air Canada Athlete of the Year program recognizes one inspiring Canadian athlete each year, and you can help choose the winner! Vote for your favourite athlete today and you could win two Economy Class round-trip tickets anywhere Air Canada flies in North America.

Canadian Supreme Court Allows Limited Mobile Phone Search w/o Warrant

I wonder how our Canadian Supreme Court can get things so wrong at times. The police cannot search my car but they can conduct (a limited) search of my phone. I am certainly glad I have it password protected and have the AVG kill-app functionality but that will only work for a short time. It's not that I do (much of) anything wrong but I just don't like the fact that my (mobile/cybre) privacy can be violated like this, without due process...
The search must be directly related to the circumstances of the suspect's arrest, the court ruled.

+Tom Napier I've been wanting to get to post for a few days.  Found it again! Thanks for posting this here.  I feel the same way, as far as it just being the principal, and the fact that they can't search your vehicle without probable cause...but they can search your phone. As +Donald Petersen mentioned this has been a back and forth controversy here, with some pending cases still in the court system.  It sounds like at least there are some strict guidelines.  Based on this report anyway, they seem to be very similar to the USA and Arizona law in particular. In that there are a few exceptions to the need for a search warrant to search a cell phone. By comparison the
exceptions are:  incidental to an arrest;  potential for evidence to disappear, get removed, deleted or destroyed,
suspect consents; or without it, police officer’s safety; or put others may be in imminent danger, if delays occur pending issuance of a valid search warrant.   Interesting article and great topic for discussion. Thanks +Tom Napier

Best Wishes For Speedy Recovery, Mr. Hockey!

It was a long time ago when I saw Gordie Howe play live, 37 years ago at the end of November actually. I just had my left knee operation to remove crushed cartilage and my brother, Mark invited me down to Birmingham, Alabama to train and recover. During my stay in Birmingham, I was honoured to see the Bulls and Whalers game. It was billed as "Reuniting of the Hanson Brothers" from the movie Slapshot. However, this game was more important to me and became something in life I would never forget... Gordie Howe, Mr. Hockey scored his 1000th career goal in professional hockey <http://www.hartfordwhalernation.com/blog/category/wha/2> which is an accomplishment that is only rivaled by Wayne Gretzky w/ 1016 total... Gordie has 1071 total regular season & playoffs. Mr. Hockey was also able to play with his two sons, which must have been a wonderful experience for him. BTW, the goal was scored in a typical Gordie Howe style, with a breaking maneuver and a quick flick of the stick, his signature wrist shot... :-)

All of our wishes for a speedy recover... Get well soon, Gordie!

Professionally, I have had a wide variety of experience in the logistics industry, concentrating mostly on warehouse and distribution centre functionality including ERP, WMS, Middleware and TMS software. I consider myself an expert in Ergonomics Automation, Document Automation, RF, Bar Code, RFID, Voice (Pick & VoIP), and paper based data collection. Prior to entering into the SCM industry, I was heavily involved in the packaging machinery (design, service and sales) and material handling industries. This combination of these two industries has helped me with my new professional focus, the document automation, order start and packing station nodes within warehousing and distribution centres.
Specialties:
Warehouse & fulfillment - distribution centre, conveying, sorting, kitting (packaging), document automation, order start automation, packing station automation, ergonomics. Packing slip/list, MSDS, statement, prescription/scripts and invoice automation. Dynamic, laser and thermal direct/transfer, print-on-demand, document automation, friction feeders for dispensing catalogues, brochures, pharmaceutical package inserts, manuals, DVD/CD's, etc.

Personally:
I have a strong belief in family and friendship. I guess you can call me one of those technical and information junkies and I just adore my sales career here at PSI Engineering. I have a very strong belief in ethics and responsibility of self. You may think it romantic but I believe that we are the government and that our elected representatives work for us. I have played for and coached both hockey and baseball teams. I have not found a sport that I didn't like but hockey (probably because I am Canadian) is my favourite. Other interest include; travel, photography, gardening, sun rises, sun sets, community and friendship.
