We stayed in a lovely little cottage outside the wonderful town of Akureyri in Northern Iceland. We didn't catch any midnight sun unfortunately but I did capture this colourful scene very near to where we stayed. In fact, you could see the lighthouse from our cottage.

I love the contrast of bright colours against the Icelandic landscapes. To me, that is the beauty of photographing Iceland.

Added some photos to my Stunning Landscape Photography board on Pinterest

Off to Switzerland tomorrow. My wonderful fiancé has planned the whole trip and I've resisted the urge to look up photos of where we'll be over the next week. All I know is there are mountains, cable cars, valleys and plenty of walking. My camera and I are going to love it.

I'm writing a book called Photography for Designers

You can find out more about the book here:

http://photographyfordesigners.com

Mainly, I want to gauge how many people here would find that interesting, especially as I'm approaching it from the point of view of a landscape photographer, as that's what I specialise in. It would be great to start a discussion about it.

In a way, as photographers, we're all designers too.

I hadn’t really considered this before I started taking photos but essentially, photography is a form of designing. When I took that photo seen in the cover, I didn’t just want it to look great, I wanted it to really show off the beauty of Iceland. I want people to look at it and say to themselves, “That looks amazing, I would love to visit Iceland”. Basically I want it to convey a message, much like we do on a day to day basis as designers.

Capturing that scene definitely required some luck but I also had to compose it, similar to how I would have to with a website. Instead of creating the elements I was simply using the world around me to “design”.

I would love to know what you think.
