I just spent the last week up in eastern Oregon shooting with the FujiFilm X100T... overall, it's a fantastic camera, and I'm excited to shoot with it going forward, especially when traveling.

A few quick first impresssions:
* Image quality is outstanding - not just noise levels, but the color and tonality of the images competes with my D610. It's hard to quantify, but I'd also say they have a little more "soul" than the images out of the Nikon - really lovely results.
* The shutter is ridiculously quiet - I've been using the "noisy" mechanical shutter, and you can barely even hear that.
* AF is good enough that you rarely even think about it
* The manual aperture, shutter speed and exposure comp dials are a joy.
* Some of the switches are a little too easy to shift accidentally. (I'm looking at you, AF mode selector.)
* Battery life is acceptable, but I notice the camera sometimes fails to turn off automatically. Carrying a second battery is a must.
* The optical viewfinder with framing cues is great. I hardly ever used the electronic or hybrid viewfinder, further extending battery life.

Overall, it's a really refreshing change from shooting with a Nikon or an Olympus, it feels like you hardly interact with the electronics when shooting, and it just does what you want it to.

One of the better "stories" I've had generated by Google Photos to date. Things still get funny, sometimes, but in general it does a nice job of turning a few days of unorganized photos into a photo essay. Definitely one of the best features of using Google Photos to backup your cell phone shots.

This may be the last thing I need before I drop cable tv again. I'm tired of subsidizing the NFL and ESPN.

Starting next year, you'll finally be able to watch HBO on the web without a cable subscription. HBO CEO Richard Plepler has confirmed the company plans to launch a "standalone, over-the-top"...

Android 5.0 Lollipop has arrived, with a great new statue outside my office. I'm excited to be part of another leap forward for the platform!

A dark, pre-moon sky and clear weather in Big Sur last night made for some amazing stargazing... I'm not sure I've ever seen so many stars, even out at sea.

Great, fresh fish and friendly service. Friendly service. A great value - lunch for 2 for $25 including a beer. We went twice and it was our favorite place in Kona.

Underwhelming seafood and inflated prices. $23 for a plain crab sandwich with no flavor. And then they have the nerve to charge 50 cents for a roll of bread. Our meal ended up being over $70 for two people having one sandwich, one salad, a beer and a glass of wine. Avoid this place and go to hogg island next door.

Great sushi with some unique and unexpected combinations. The various salmon nigiri were amazing and the tasting spoons were also fantastic, including the monkfish liver.

Consistent if unexciting mexican food. I get dinner here regularly because it's near my house and it's okay but not great. Generally a few dollars more expensive than other comparable mexican restaurants in san francisco.
