Google's redesign of the Chrome bookmarks manager has begun rolling out to users running the most polished version of the browser. And those users are very unhappy

I don't know if it's still true, but when I reluctantly switched from buggy Opera with its amazingly good bookmarks, it was impossible to even find a plugin that did them properly in Chrome. So i switched to Firefox, which has a good plugin. IE also has good bookmarks but at that time it was deeply slow and buggy. It really isn't all that bad lately, BTW.

Google apparently doesn't want third parties even messing with their bookmarks. But in any case bookmarks don't properly belong in a narrow ribbon at the top of the browser. They should be a super menu that slides in from the left side where gawd intended them. I have hundreds of deeply categorized bookmarks so I can save interesting things to revisit them or to make a salient point with an authoritative reference. There is no way to do this in a tiny ribbon.

I will probably return to Opera on my upcoming new PC, because the rendering engine is now WebKit, just like Chrome so that should kill the bugs.

Got a problem with my mobile phone (Nexus S 4G)- gmail has stopped working. "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly"- except that it's been a number of days that has been showing up.

I've been looking for a way to contact Google support about it but haven't found a way. Anybody got either clues about how to make gmail work or contact Google?

500 years ago the church put people to death for using the printing press. That didn't stop the printing press. Now the RIAA has claimed that piracy is "too benign of a term to adequately describe the toll that music theft" takes on musicians. They call it "worse than piracy", ignoring the fact that real pirates kill people.

My guess? This is  the end of the world for the big three record labels:

On Sunday morning, April 25th, 1976, I decided not to drink for a few days. I had an appointment with a therapist on Friday to discuss my drinking problem, and I figured I'd walk in and tell him I hadn't had a drink for 5 days. I did that, and he said he hadn't had a drink for 5 years. Oops.

Been sober ever since that morning. 39 years today.

As Rumi says, "Wear gratitude like a cloak and it will feed every corner of your life."

There's a lot of debate about the recent judgement regarding Marvin Gaye. Here's a very interesting article in TechDirt about that: https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20150312/06330930299/

“The likelihood of the laws being enforced is slim,” Ann M. Ravel, the chairwoman of the FEC, said in an interview. “I never want to give up, but I’m not under any illusions. People think the F.E.C. is dysfunctional. It’s worse than dysfunctional.”

Here's a link from the Pew Trust showing how how mobile phones affect different ages:

http://www.multichannel.com/pew-study-shows-digital-age-divide/389362

This really reinforces the conversation I had with a vocal coach and starmaker in LA who has worked with Nash Grier, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Dillon, Kristina Bazan, Nicki Minaj, and Katy Perry. He suggested we use social media on mobile phones to pull people into the music. He's right.

I agree with dubious at the very least of what they are trying to accomplish, I think unless an artist is just beginning and has no one to fend for them, this will be usueful, but really this sort of thing is better left to pr  and marketing specialists.

I have been nearsighted for many years and have seen many optometrists. Recently I saw Dr. Michael G. Kiyomoto, and, in my opinion, he is absolutely excellent. Very detailed, very careful, lots of explanation, was not trying to sell me glasses. I strongly recommend Dr. Kiyomoto.
