Odd things in Windows 8 - #Windoddness #5.

And where is my VPN connection?

I have always considered this one odd. Well it is not something new that win8 added but it is still present. Have the Windows PMs ever thought that somebody wants to rename their VPN connection (or in that matter any random network name that Windows assigns)?

Odd things in Windows 8 - Windoddness #4

Using my Surface in the last two days makes me think more and more that Windows 8 is not enterprise ready. Here is one of the things that although not a typical consumer scenario is widely used in enterprises: remote desktop to a virtual machine running Windows 8. It seems Windows Client team didn't get the remote desktop scenario right at all (even after the numerous complains they received after Build 2011).

Enjoy your RDPing :)

I am taking this #windoddness  back! Apparently "Disconnect" is valid option for RDP - to disconnect the RDP session! I will blame it as an user error ;)

Odd things in Windows 8 - Windoddness #2

One would say printing is easy on Windows 8 (because it honestly is a pain on the iPad) but... well, printing is dead but we still need it from time to time. If you have never used keyboard shortcuts in Windows before then you will be DOA with Windows 8. Good luck printing your PDF:) Here is why

Odd things in Windows 8 - Windoddness #1

I started using my Windows 8 RT Surface (that's a long name) device more extensively lately and am discovering odd things one after the other. Hence I decided to document those in series of videos hoping those will be used as lessons to learn from.

My first "windoddness" (Windows+oddness) is about the notifications on the login screen. It is nice that I get a notification that I have new message on the login screen but the not-nice part is ... how do I know where this notification comes from?

I think you are more confused than I :) Just for comparison - on Android and iPhone if one gets notification he or she can click on it and directly open either the email, appointment, tweet, facebook or whatever the notification is about - not in Windows 8 and this is what I am complaining about.

Nice, after upgrading to Lion my Mac lost bunch of things. Very disappointing. One more thing that was lost was also the C++ compiler that was supposed to be part of the XCode installation. Now one needs to install it manually by going to XCode -> Preferences -> Downloads and click on Install Command Line Tools.

Odd things in Windows 8 - Windoddness #3

Well, it is not an oddness - it is something normal for Windows but I still think it is exciting to see the new blue screen ;)

It may sound funny to you (and sarcastic too) but here is the easiest way to mount ISO drive on Windows 7 (including Windows Server 2008 R2).

As we all know neither of Microsoft Operating Systems support easy mounting of ISO drives so what I had to do is to attach the drive to one of the  Virtual Machines running either in Hyper-V or in your choice of hypervisor and share the attached drive with the host OS. This way you don't need to install any third party software with questionable roots :) Of course you need to run a whole VM for that but I do it anyway :)

Well, my new attempt to like Windows 8 ended up with the following blog post: http://bit.ly/Owk0oW
Sorry but it seems that once again I am not the target audience for Windows development team.

Fast delivery, the right part, excellent price! Instead paying $50 to Dyson authorized repair store I paid only $5 + delivery.
