Fedora +Python  users & devs are meeting up virtually this weekend to port even more packages to Python 3. It's all happening in IRC, so check out the details and stop by to lend a hand!

Open source editing takes another step forward. Check out Pitivi; light, intuitive and free.

We are preparing for a 0.95 release and we need your help: please try out the current "daily" bundles and report any remaining bugs you can find (especially freezes, crashes, incorrect output, etc.). We want it to be solid. See the download page on our website, and join us on our IRC channel to make testing easier!

Meet PyParallel; with  test results posted, it's promoted as:
http://pyparallel.org/

"An experimental, proof-of-concept fork of Python 3
designed to optimally exploit multiple CPU cores, fast
SSDs, NUMA architectures and 10Gb+ Ethernet networks.

Removes the limitation of the Global Interpreter Lock (GIL)
without needing to remove it at all."

Async I/O meets multicore. PyParallel combines the concurrency benefits afforded by single-threaded async I/O architectures with the performance benefits afforded by simultaneous multi-threading. Scales linearly with cores and I/O bandwidth. PyParallel exhibits excellent linear scaling across ...

Consultant Allen Holub explains why "x" is bullshit; x = scrum or misused agile. Don't miss this one.

Python Devs, checkout "I wish I knew these things when I learned Python":
Bugra Akyildiz shows many great examples fast:

I'm digging into dictionaries but his blog has so much more. The math peeps will especially find value in his work.

I sometimes found myself asking myself how I cannot know simpler way of doing “this” thing in Python 3. When I seek solution, I of course find much more elegant, efficient and more bug-free code parts over time. In total(not just this post), the total sum of “those” things were far more than I ...

In the util-linux source tree we have a small private library to generate nice and readable outputs (trees and tables) for command line utils. It's used for example for lsblk(8) or findmnt(8). The library has many features like align data in cells, add padding, truncate multibyte data, formatting according to terminal width, output to parsable formats etc.

On DevConf 2014 I have seen many presentations with new tools with horrible outputs (usually implemented by naive printf() without care about  terminal width etc.).

Sooo, in the next util-linux release we're going to share the formatting code as a small libsmartcols shared library. Thanks to +Ondrej Oprala who works on this task with me.

These ARE the best burgers in North America; don't eat for at least 12 hours before you get there; servings are huge.

Call Schlievert and ask for Tim - he's the best. He's been doing plumbing for over 30 years and seems to have seen and done just about everything many times. He follows my model for successful customer service: get in, get out and get invoiced. These guys are knock-out artists with all things plumbing and it's because of people like Tim.
