Figuring out proper loot for each encounter is non-trivial it turns out. I don't want to give too much or too little, but I haven't got a lot of experience with the PnP rules of thumb. I hope I don't flub it.

Big news! I've published a novel! A Clockwork Murder is a murder mystery set in a fantasy world. Not my first novel, but the first one that was good enough to edit and polish so I could release it. Check it out: http://amzn.com/B00S1VSQEM

I would really appreciate help spreading the word, and if you do read it, I would love to hear your review (especially if you review it on Amazon, which will help me gain more readers).

Also, to help market my writing, I have converted my kid's book Facebook page into an author page. Please check that out and Like it over at: http://www.facebook.com/authortodd

Thanks!

Basically, for the first draft, especially your first time, don't talk about it. You need to train yourself to put the editing brain on hold when you create. Don't worry about if it is good or not, just write and don't stop. Same goes for plot, at least for nanowrimo. Write all your cool scenes and worry about making something out of it later. Think of it like sketching or character studies a painter would do before the real painting. Plotting is a related, but different skill. To practice that, make outlines of the plots of some books you like. Then you'll get a better idea of what a plot needs.

For dialog, I started playing Everquest in part to be able to see more real dialog. I found it helpful to read the dialog as text. That is not the best dialog to emulate, but it is a starting place. There is an ebb and flow to real conversations that can be hard to capture. Listening around you when you are in restaurants and such can help too.

+Michael Birke So I finally booted up Elite Dangerous. I'm going through the tutorials now. I didn't like it with mouse/keyboard, but once I hooked up my Xbox controller, it is going a lot better. Looks promising...

Welp, someone alerted me to a Groupon deal for a new Nexus 7 16 GB tablet for $150, so I jumped on it. Great price point for a proven tablet.

Played "Party Crashers", ST-HUY4Y2D5Q by @Winin, first Star Trek Online foundry I've played in years. In this, you tell a junior officer a story while beating the hell out of him in the gym. The story is the direct sequel to the one in the Cardassian arc, where you're wiping the True Way Cardassians off of a breakaway colony planet.

In this one, an anniversary celebration is interrupted by pirates after their precious medicine shipments... but those pirates aren't acting alone. There's some dark presence behind them. A shorter, dark presence. With big ears. And a lumpy head.

Keep the Rules of Acquisition handy. You'll need them.
