I spent a winter living at the J-Bar-L Ranch just outside Canyon City,Oregon  during the months of Nov 1979 - April 1980 (approx) along with a few other hippie types. The ranch had been closed for business for a number of years and the owner rented it out very inexpensively in order to keep it from falling into complete disrepair. The main lodge had a commercial kitchen, dining room, and spacious lounge, all of which lent it to some great partying. The Pool was fed by natural hot springs, so it remained full year-long and was fantastic for winter swims. A couple hundred yards away from the developed grounds were some redwood primitive hot tubs dug into the ground - again fed by hot springs - more winter delights. I have not visited this site since the very early 1980's, but would love to do so at some time. If you have any info regarding it's current state of affairs, please send me an email or message through Google+.

This is soooo spot on. I live in Upstate NY and most of my younger co-workers devour this stuff. Every song is worse than the last one. It's friggin torment. I have played them a bunch of Haggard, Jones, Waylon & Willie (as well as Yoakam, Lovett, Hayes Carll, Steve Earl, etc.) on my ipod and they honest to gawd have never heard of them (despite them being name-checked on a lot of current songs).  Forget about Roy Acuff, the Carter Family and Bill Monroe.

To be fair, I cannot turn on a current Pop station without being tortured either. Some of it is being too old (60), but I DO find stuff being released to enjoy every week - Lydia Loveless, Jason Isbell, Pieta Brown for example. It's out there, just not on the radio. Really like The Roots, Alabama Shakes, Nicole Atkins, MØ and Goldfrapp  on the Pop and Rock side of things.

I've given up on Radio, but not on Music.

Nothing says #HappyHalloween like Screamin' Jay Hawkins. "Whistling Past The Graveyard" from his 1994 album 'Somethin' Funny Going On' (it was produced by my friend the late great Buddy Blue - he also plays guitar here)  #Halloween

#Halloween without #TheCramps is like Thanksgiving without food poisoning. Thank you Lux & Ivy for being the Johnny & June of Psychobilly. We miss you terribly, but will remember always. Stay sick, turn blue.

This is blowing up all over right-wing twitter this morning. They are quite certain that this proves definitively that POTUS and State Dept were lying from the git-go. Don't have FOX on my cable, but imagine this is all over that, too...

Space shuttle Endeavour is on its way from Los Angeles International Airport to the California Science Center in Exposition Park. The 12-mile route, which includes major thoroughfares such as Manchester, Crenshaw and Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards, looks radically different than it did months ago. Power lines have been lifted and trees removed. Nearly 2,700 steel plates were placed on streets to better distribute Endeavour’s weight and protect the century-old infrastructure underneath.
