The Santa Claus Haus is dried in. The solar is hooked up and working. Now I need to caulk the outside and touch up the paint. At that point it will be parade ready. You can see some photos on Google+.

I love how these North Carolina colleges and college students are finding new and innovative ways to support sustainability on campus. Imagine if you adapted the solar-powered charging station built into a patio table at UNC-Pembroke to something like a deck awning on your tiny house?

In a number of areas, our hand has been forced. We have to side-step municipal zoning regulations just to live (dare I say?) free!
From the article: "Whatever the owners call their tiny house, it likely falls under the city of Greensboro’s accessory dwelling ordinance. Guidelines for accessory dwellings in Greensboro broadly conform with those in Winston-Salem, Durham and Charlotte; Raleigh, alone among the state’s five largest cities, does not allow such structures."

Early last week we met Gabriel Jones, a senior at +Appalachian State University. Together with his dad he built an off-grid, tiny house on a salvaged travel trailer frame. It turned out beautiful and here's the video to prove it!
