- And attacks are becoming commonplace events. Here's an interesting one I recalled: http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=3858476May 2, 2012
- I'm sure there were gators in the 20+ ft / 7m range one time, which could approach 1500lbs. They were highly endangered in the mid 20th century, but populations have recovered in Florida to the point of allowing hunting permits. Unfortunately, gator attacks are annual occurrences, even when knowledge of their behavior and location are evident. Gators are stealthy stalkers, and a moment's inattention can be deadly.
