This...despite the fact that A: there has been an increase in population ...and B: that increase in population also having more wealth, thus having more items exposed to being damaged/destroyed by weather-related phenomena. #climate #AGW #CAGW

Over the weekend, many people in the Dorset area spotted this rare wave-like cloud. What is so special about this cloud?

Asperitas ( ass-pair-it-ass) is the proposed name for a cloud formation that does not seem to quite fit into the current classifications of the WMO International Cloud Atlas. It is a relatively rare formation that has only recently started to gain recognition. Whilst not yet an official cloud type, Asperitas is currently being assessed by the World Meteorological Organization. If this goes ahead it will be the first new cloud type in over 50 years. A decision on whether asperitas is to gain its own classification is expected in the coming months.

Thanks to Steven Poulton for sharing this amazing picture.

Typically, the videos we share of downbursts are from a safe distance. This is not one of those videos.

Introduction
I'm a former editorial meteorologist for The Weather Channel and weather.com. I worked full time at TWC for 11 years from 2001 to 2012. I now work part time as a social meteorologist - producing relevant and timely content by the curation of social media including tweets, shared photos, Google+ posts, and Facebook posts. I also trigger engagement with fans of The Weather Channel (Twitter, Facebook, Google+) by answering questions pertaining to meteorology and TWC.

I love tracking breaking weather news, tech news, and staying on top of social media and how to utilize it in news dissemination. I try to seek out intriguing weather stories and imagery on a near-daily basis.

I was one of two people who initiated the use of Twitter and Facebook at The Weather Channel in February 2009.

I'm originally from the northeast suburbs of Philadelphia. I moved to Atlanta to work for The Weather Channel in 2001. I lived and worked there until summer 2012 when my family and I made the move to beautiful Asheville, North Carolina.  I am married to a superb radiologist from New Orleans and we have an awesome little guy named Charlie who turned 2 in March 2014.

Expected high quality, went beyond My wife and I expected high quality food and service and we received it. In fact, the food went beyond our expectations while the server was very knowledgeable. I encourage people to take a look at the menu before you go to Curate. It can be a bit overwhelming but looking beforehand will save you time and you can really lock in on what you want. Stand outs were the cheese plate (tabla de quesos), the sauteed mushrooms (setas al jerez), the wonderful and filling potatoes (patatas bravas), lamb skewers (pincho moruno), and the goat cheese-filled peppers (pimientos de piquillo y queso de cabra). Finally, if you still have room and a chocolate fiend, espuma de chocolate is a must.

Excellent service. Our filet mignon was cooked to perfection. The wine is quite pricey but worth it.
