You really have to love +Democracy Now! for telling it like it is
The FBI and federal prosecutors have recommended felony charges against former CIA director David Petraeus for allegedly providing classified information to a woman with whom he had an extramarital affair. Petraeus resigned in 2012 after admitting to cheating on his wife with his biographer, Paula Broadwell. The recommendation of charges stems from a probe into whether Petraeus gave Broadwell access to his CIA email account and other sensitive ma...

My fave Cocker track. So long and thanks mate. I ask myself would the great man have won Xecrable Factor? No. Was he one of the finest vocalists of his era? Yes. Draw your own conclusion.

Bad Kiwi!
Newly revealed documents from Edward Snowden have shown New Zealand is vacuuming up communications across the Asia-Pacific region and sharing them with the National Security Agency in the United States. Reports published by The Intercept in collaboration with the New Zealand Herald and journalist Nicky Hager describe how New Zealand’s digital spy agency collects data from island nations with whom it has friendly ties, such as Tuvalu, Nauru, Samoa...

I'm no lawyer but if it were about a firm or an individual I think it would probably be a libel to re-characterise the content of yesterday's FCA report and their comments on Equity Crowdfunding as either a 'rebuke' or a 'crackdown'. This is deeply damaging and prejudicial.

Nice post by Jess Ratty of Crowdfunder on the Green Party initiative to crowdfunding its election campaign. Of course lots of parties can, and have, done similar things in the past, but the ease with which this can now be done is extraordinary. As a party that has made much of its rapidly recent expanded membership numbers it is a classic demonstration of a crowd asset being used effectively
The Green Party has pioneered a new path for British politics by using Crowdfunder to raise money, campaign and bring greater choice to voters in 2015. Over the last three months 60 Green Party parliamentary candidates have used Crowdfunder, gathering the support of over 2000 backers and raising ...

An estimated 3.7 million people rallied across France on Sunday in response to the Charlie Hebdo shootings and ensuing attacks that left 17 people dead. More than a million people marched in Paris, making it the largest demonstration in French history. More than 40 world leaders traveled to Paris to help lead the march. "What we saw on display on the one hand was very heartening, to see so many people come into the streets," says Jeremy Scahill, ...

The dreadful murders in Paris last week were truly tragic but I am rapidly getting very fed up of hypocritical politicians bleating on about the importance of free speech. Many of those in attendance at the march yesterday have form in either actively gagging, constraining, prosecuting and killing journalists. They also fully buy into the PC rhetoric which prevents the use of so called  "offensive" words which is entirely socially constructed . There is no defence for resorting to violence when "offended" but to believe that we have a right to offend as part of a principle of free speech when clearly we dont is disingenuous to say the least and will appear to many others around the world as being yet more attempts to export our "values" which are, at best, open to negotiation.
