In response to the Windows Phone is dead fever, Microsoft says, "meh".

Google turns up these predictions going back years yet still it's here. It's tiny sales though compared to iOS/Android and that's enough for the press to seize upon the recent graph showing this in further decline as imminent death.

Yet still Microsoft work on Windows Phone. Why? Because it's just one part of the puzzle.

The way they have shifted things and designed Windows 10, it's not a major cost to work on Windows 10 for mobile and is just an extension of the Windows or Microsoft user experience. As Nadella has said, people could be using any number of devices, even other platforms (hence a lot of work on iOS/Android apps recently).

Windows on phones however is still desirable to some, particularly corporates. I'd argue also those who are tired of iOS & Android and try Windows Phone for a change, along with a market of customers who just want something that works, is simple, and cheap, but also is familiar to and syncs with Windows PCs and laptops.

Still the sales of phones remain tiny. Slashing Lumia production (which was saturated with too many identical low end devices) is causing falling sales even. However for Microsoft it's not about sales of devices, so it really doesn't matter. Windows Phone just adds to the diversity.
A focus on businesses and the cloud means that Microsoft's failing Windows Phone business is less important than it seems.

Prof. Brian just posted this on FB. An article with actual facts and scientific & mathematical proof. Plenty that goes over the heads of conspiracy nuts so they'll just rant on in caps on YouTube videos presented by passionate sounding nuts picking random quotes, data, pictures and video out of context to prove their point. Like all conspiracy theories.

That petition about having to do four tax returns a year got enough signatures for a debate. They spent 3 hours on it! Haven't got time or patience to watch or read it all. I need to find the TL;DR version.

"Parliament debated the petition you signed – “Scrap plans forcing self employed & small business to do 4 tax returns yearly”

Just noticed this rip off roaming scam from EE. Basically having been lured onto one of their 4G plans, they can then just outright block data access when roaming unless you cough up for an expensive bundle. That way I can see they will get around the EU roaming charge ban as that probably applies to the price per MB hikes (in 2017 they can't charge any more than your home rate within EU). Currently it certainly blocks you.

"Using data with 4GEE plans
•If you're on a 4GEE plan you can't use your data abroad unless you buy an add-on. This means there is no chance of running up an unexpected bill.
•If you want to access data, make sure data roaming is switched on and open your internet browser.
•You'll be prompted to buy a data add-on as soon as you try to go online.
•If your data runs out, the next time you try to use the internet you'll see a screen where you can buy another add-on.
•If you are a pay as you go customer, you will need to have topped up enough credit to get an add-on."

Hmm, well okay things have improved from Orange's terrible bundles. EE do a £4 a day EU bundle which gets you 500MB a day and unlimited calls & texts. Though only 100MB of that can be used on 4G, the rest slower. Still though, that's an extra £28 for a week's roaming. When the EU limits kick in I assume it still won't allow you to use your existing data allowance so you'll be charged the UK data rate per MB, or buy a bundle, but also bet EE can still block data roaming entirely and force you on a bundle.

Meanwhile, Three... no extra charges, just the same as in UK, inc unlimited data if you have it. I'd get Three if it wasn't for signal issues where I need it.

Of course there's "free" hotel wifi. I rarely bother as most are terrible to impossible to use.
