Strava to blame for MTB ban?

The city of Los Altos, CA recently implemented a ban on mountain biking in the Byrne Reserve, with speeds recorded on Strava seemingly playing a central role in the decision. Is it time to rethink how we use the app?
The city of Los Altos, CA has implemented a ban on mountain bikes in the Byrne Reserve following complaints by other user groups. It seems that speeds recorded on Strava helped the council reach its decision: “I’m done with this as far as I’m...

Analysis of an ATM skimmer device. Makes you think when you consider how it genuinely looks like part of the machine and part of me still thinks a "hidden" camera would be some bulky thing, but then consider the size of a camera on a smartphone. Tiny. So can be hidden in places you wouldn't think.

Background When traveling, Elizabeth and I are always a little bit extra cautious; we hide money in special belts, we carry emergency cards in 3 separate places, we never withdraw more than $100 from the ATM. One precaution Elizabeth always takes, is covering her PIN number with her left hand while she types it with …

Amazon Prime Now

I'm in one of the Prime Now postcodes but I've not tried it yet, as despite being a Prime subscriber, they haven't got an app for Windows Phone to use it.

And that's one of the many issues I'm seeing with this service. Although rumours are a Windows app is in the works.

1. You can only use it via a mobile app. Why is this? What are they gaining from your phone use? Would have thought most people using the service will be at home anyway. Part of the benefit is to be able to get something when you want it rather than having to get things delivered to work or a collection point because you're not sure you will be in when it's delivered.

2. 1hr delivery it seems costs £6.99 in the UK. So on top of £80 Prime subscription it's another cost.

3. 2hr is free, but it's not quite as suggested. It's a 2hr slot you can pick, not necessarily 2hrs from now.

4. Apparently they want you to add a tip on top! Stop it. Besides from again we're already paying £80 for Prime, this is the UK. We don't tip delivery guys. Just pay them a decent wage! (Americans should learn this too and stop supporting companies that underpay. Don't tip just because it's mandatory. Force companies to pay their staff properly).

Transit of Mercury

First off, apologies for the picture. This idea just popped into my head and I had to waste my lunch hour making it real.

Anyway, this is a reminder that there's a transit of Mercury (get it?) across the sun next Monday. I've bought a filter for my camera (after last year's eclipse fiasco) so I'm hoping for clear skies.
