“Sure, I’ve got one of those friendly-warm, wouldn’t-do-you-wrong business faces, and I got paid my $150, but it was the biggest mistake of my life.” says Marshall. “I can’t go anywhere in public these days without being accosted by people who badger me for arcane professional advice, or in some cases tell me that my business owes them money."
He’s now become ‘the smiling businessman’ on thousands of website homepages around the world.

When I worked in the wine industry many moons ago we had certain classes of wines that were commonly referred to as 'ladder wines'. These were grape varieties or styles that an individual would typically start enjoying as part of their wine journey – for most people it would stat with a sweet ...

Dear Little Miss Social

I’m curious about social media, but I don’t really want to put myself ‘out there’. The very idea unnerves me - I would rather just stay in the shadows of anonymity. But I have varied interests and would genuinely like connect, share and learn from others. Am I destined to remain the social wallflower or is there an acceptable half-way point I could adopt?

As a lecturer at the University of Technology, Sydney +JENNI BEATTIE has a front-line view of the skills our next-gen PR and comms students are being taught… but is it enough for them to make a real go of it in a contemporary workplace? Jenni runs through a 6-point checklist for anyone entering or working in the PR/ comms space: social media monitoring, image based communications, social media tools, Google Analytics, an understanding of traditional methodologies, and lifelong learning.

Tom Gallagher, a Melbourne based entrepreneur is turning heads with the launch of his nascent start-up called a ‘cafe’. The business idea is deceptively simple. Users, or as Gallagher refers to them, ‘customers’ would physically visit the cafe and transact for items such as coffee, muffins and chicken wraps. Although like many new and disruptive business models today it’s not immediately obvious how profit will be sustainably generated. Still, Gallagher has recently closed a $17 million Series A round from investors eager to get in early.

After launching the wildly popular Digital in 2008, the house of NET:101 has unveiled Social. The nose behind this composition, Tim Martin was following the idea of creating a classic business fragrance, “One that would last for years and be the type of scent that organisational stakeholders would adore.”

Smart, modern facilities. Very reasonably priced. Has the best internal catering of any venue I've used across Australia. Some of their rooms don't have windows though.

I've used Cliftons 3 times - twice in Melbourne and once in Perth - and on all three occasions something has gone 'not quite right'. There won't be a forth attempt.

The parking fee price structure is a disgrace. That's why I always get taxi's to and from the airport.
