A little bit of snow. Kate and I took a "support the businesses that are open tour." Lunch at Issei Noodle and coffee at Square One. Met some great new folks at Square One and had a nice chat.

AWS is promoting a shift to the cloud for local government.  They announced the winners of their 2016 City on a Cloud Challenge

OpenStack Upstream training is coming to a close in Tokyo. Loic Dachary and our assistants from Rackspace, HP, and Red Hat made the class run smoothly, and the OpenStack Foundation and FNTech set us up for success with excellent facilities. Thank you to everyone involved!

Interesting that they jumped straight into PaaS, but it looks like they're backed by AWS for IaaS.

I hope to see more EGOV folks at this event next year.  It was a well run and highly energized unconference.  I was most interested in the mix of people:  technologists and policy folks, government employees, private company employees, and hobbyists.

I don't re-read many books, but I re-read The Art of Possibility.  Mr. Zander's infectious positive attitude is especially helpful when dealing with horrible software.  And as a software developer, I know that all software is horrible under certain circumstances.  :-)
