Annnd, this morning I was eating a bowl of beef-and-noodles at the market, and a woman eating next to me asked me if I was working at the University.  I replied in the affirmative, and she turned to the noodle lady and said that I was going to be here for one year and was an English teacher at the university.  I'm proud of the fact that all of this was in Viet and I understood, but it's also <still> weird how much strangers know about my life!

Hi Friends & Colleagues!

Registration opened this weekend for this June's DesignCON.  It's like a maker-faire for Online Design.

The time is ripe for training opportunities in online course-design, but this mini-conference is capped at only 50 people total.

Secure an invitation: http://designcon.strikingly.com

Let me know if you have any questions--I'm hoping that some of the teachers you work with will want to engage in a collaborative work-conference like this.

~Tim

Crucibles Generate Leaders
Don't trust a leader who hasn't been through a crucible.  Broken people are better than whole people when it comes to leadership.  Try looking through the Bible to find a leader who hasn't first gone through the trials that break him down so God can better ...

Janet's Car Wreck (posted by her grateful husband)
Tuesday  evening Janet and Anna were in a blue Honda minivan that hit a semi-truck head-on. I don't have a picture of the car yet (it's totaled), but when I got to the hospital ER they were waiting on the results of the CT Scan.
The semi truck was southbound on Hwy 97 through Redmond and Janet turned left across the highway in front of it (she has no idea why she did this!). The collision drove the blue minivan backward into another vehicle. Both other vehicles drove away from the wreckage of our minivan afterwards, but the minivan will not be driving anywhere again.
Janet's left arm (keep in mind that she's left-handed) is broken at the collarbone. Anna is one sore 13 year old, but nothing is broken. Could have been much, much worse. I could copy and paste that sentence SO many times.  We are home now, and I am nurse.
We're grateful. We're so grateful that Anna wasn't more exposed to the oncoming semi. So grateful that nobody was tragically injured. Grateful that it is the end of a busy summer, not before or during. So grateful.
~Tim (still husband to Janet, still dad to Anna)
