Kick It Like Old School Freestyle
Rewind to summer and a great fundraising event

Travel back in time with us to the ‘90s and the freestyle dance scene, when groups like The Cover Girls and Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam rocked airwaves and dance floors across the nation.

Daylife Beach Club at +Harrah's Resort Atlantic City  celebrated that sizzling era of music with their Old School Freestyle event and fundraiser.  Featuring performances by Lil Suzy (known for her hits “Promise Me,” “Can’t Get You Out of My Mind” and “Take Me In Your Arms”) and freestyle group TKA, the event also featured appearances by stars from the hit TV show Mob Wives as well as local DJ celebrities.

Though folks were there to party, the event also benefitted a good cause. Proceeds from tickets went to The Unico Philadelphia Foundation, a non-profit made up of professionals, businesspeople and philanthropists who donate their money and time to charities that provide food and shelter to those in need.

What Made This Event And Fundraiser A Success: Strategy

Frank S. Catrambone of +GoCoastalAC  shared that the marketing of the event involved, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. “Along with social media, [our] team uses a strategic network of promoters that spread the word to friends,” he wrote in an email interview. Thanks to proper marketing and great talent, the event was a success. “It was the perfect mix of good promotion, good talent, and proper operations,” he wrote. Lil Suzy was a huge highlight of the night. “Having the crowd watch Lil Suzy was a bright spot,” he wrote. “The guests that were there to see her ran to the stage and sang along.”

Event Planning Takeaway: Get A Head Start

If you’re already looking forward to summer and planning events for next year, Catrambone has advice to give. “Start your promotion early and promote hard,” he wrote. “Don’t rely on your talent to drive sales to the show. Be sure to have a team of professionals that you trust around you to assist and make your events spectacular!”

Event Planning Solutions for Schools
Graduation event tickets

A large graduating high school class means a lot of friends and family, which translates into quite a crowd!   One of the most effective way to manage your graduation ceremony is through event tickets sold online.

Green Dot Public Schools’ Ánimo Ralph Bunche Charter High School has an established reputation for molding kids into college-ready students and future leaders. The school, hailed as one of “America’s Best High Schools” by Newsweek and The Daily Beast, sees more than 90 percent of its graduates accepted into college year over year.

For such an important event, ARB has come to rely on online ticketing for its reliability and efficiency. The school’s principal, Nancy Padilla-Flores, reports using online tickets for its graduations since 2010, when one of the school’s counselors introduced their ease of use for a school event.

At their recent June 2015 graduation ceremony,  ARB celebrated a large number of students successfully completing high school, receiving their diplomas, and commencing with the next steps in their educational journeys. “The event has been a success every year,” stated Padilla-Flores, citing how the ticketing system also helped the event planners “easily identify who was allowed access to the event.”

Already planning a 2016 commencement ceremony?  Padilla-Flores offers the following tip: “I would advise anyone planning a graduation to think about clearly messaging the ticket logistics to the audience, meaning specifying who needs a ticket and how each should go about getting one.”

How A Cabaret Fundraiser Made A Difference
For one little girl

Early last fall, Payton Sernick began to complain of stomach and leg pains, and she became so tired after school that her parents, Cheyenne and Andrea, knew something must be wrong.  That October, Payton was diagnosed with lymphoma and leukemia and admitted to Regina General Hospital.

Payton, now seven years old, spent 40 days in the hospital during the first phase of her treatment, which sometimes meant five rounds of chemotherapy a day. The family, which also includes Payton’s younger sibling Beckham, relocated to Regina to be with her.

To help raise funds while Payton underwent treatments, friends held the Payton Sernick Cabaret. Within six hours,  the 350 available tickets for the auction and dinner sold out, and about 650 people attended between the auction/dinner and the cabaret part of the evening. Local band Crossroads played, a Dutch auction featured four items valued at $10,000 each, and the silent auction boasted over 70 pieces.

What Made This Fundraiser A Success

Darryl Shirley, a member of the fundraising committee, says fundraisers used the family’s web page, Facebook, radio, posters, word of mouth and phone calls for promotions. Though Payton and her family couldn’t attend, Shirley notes that one of the fundraiser’s highlights was a slideshow Payton and her mom made for them. “There was not a dry eye in the house when it was over,” he says.

Fundraising Tip: Start Early, Stay Dedicated

Says Shirley, “Start early with a small core group, bringing in others as needed, but only let dedicated people on your committee. If you can find a venue that’s unique it will pique the interest of potential patrons. You won’t have success if you don’t get people to come out.”

A Folk Legend Performs
Raising the roof and raising funds
Steve Knightley of acoustic folk/roots duo Show of Hands appeared at Hernhill Village Hall in Kent for a solo performance in front of a huge crowd of thrilled fans.

Sponsored by +The Band Company , a boutique live entertainment agency which places live music acts for weddings, clubs, pubs and special functions like festivals and corporate events, the event was a rousing success!

Not only was the show sold out, it also included a raffle to raise funds for the venue and help pay for children’s play equipment for the grounds.

Concert Marketing Tip: Mix it Up

The Band Company used many different types of publicity to get the word out about the show. A Facebook event page, social media posts, word of mouth, posters, giving notice to local folk music groups and local radio spots all played a part in advertising this concert.
