Today we pray for Volunteers: Roberta, Marganne, Sheryl

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy. (Philippians 1:3-4)

Dear Heavenly Father,

Debriefing their experiences as volunteers is one of the last ingredients of the volunteers’ service at the Thrive Retreat. It’s a time to remember and share stories of what You did in and through them and the attendees during the retreat.

During those debriefing meetings, we will praise and honor You for all You have done to bless and encourage each woman; those who served and those who came to be served. Please help the volunteers to debrief well with each other and begin their preparations to re-enter real life at home. May they know how to share what they’ve experienced with their friends and family and those who generously prayed and gave so they could serve at the retreats.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Do you dream in a foreign language?”

This week we’ve had so much fun connecting with each other, and finding out how much we have in common! Who but God would have made sure exactly the right combination of volunteers and attendees and knit their hearts together in just a few days? One way we’ve learned more about our global women (and they’ve learned about each other) is a game as silly and creative as it is revealing. In case you want to play along, just consider what your answers would be to these questions…Have you taken Bibles to church in two or three languages? Do you need to tone down your (impressive, aggressive, domineering) driving skills in order to drive on the roads in the U.S.? Have you ever thrown toilet paper away in the trash when you’re on home assignment here? And do you sometimes dream in a foreign language? If you answered yes to one or more of these queries, you just might be…a global worker!

“She is Clothed in Fine Linen”

One of the delights of this week is to see a plain room transformed into a clothing boutique, and daughters of the King radiant in the clothing so lavishly given for them. Many of our global workers have no time, money or even a place to shop for clothes. But this week, they are being treated to a room full of more than 1500 dresses, blouses, shoes, scarves and jewelry to choose from. It is transforming for some – their first new clothes in years, graciously gathered with love. How God must find joy in seeing His children wrapped in gifts and cherished.. “If that is how God clothes the grass of the field…will he not much more clothe you”. Matt 6:30

These I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations. (Isaiah 56:7)

Dear Heavenly Father,

When we look around our hurting world, it is easy to feel hopeless. Yet, we are not a people without Hope. We thank you for giving us hope by building Your Church and calling all people to Yourself. We pray for the nations around the world, asking that the church You are building will be strong and faithful. We pray for justice and mercy in the governments and societies so issues of poverty and exploitation, and needs for education, housing, and employment will be met.

We are grateful that most of our attendees are on a furlough break from their work. Eventually they will return to their homes and areas of service. Please use their furlough time to prepare them for what You have prepared in advance for them to do. May they remember, even as they share with churches, families and supporters and then prepare to return to their region of service, “how beautiful are the feet of those who bring Good News!

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today we pray for Volunteers: Amanda, Francoise, Cheryl, Wanda, Mary

Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:13-15)

Dear Heavenly Father,

You created us to be kind and caring to one another. Healing often comes through loving acts of kindness. Today we pray for the pampering teams who will give Your love to the attendees through excellent massages, beautiful haircuts and extreme foot-washing pedicures. They will have many opportunities to lovingly touch and care for the attendees while prayerfully listening and carefully holding their stories.

Please bless the work of their hands. May the hairstyles meet the expectations of the attendees, may the massage bring relief to tired bodies, and may the pedicure room be an opportunity for one-on-one connections, prayer and fun conversations. May these and the opportunities to have their colors and make-up done, exercise, or read a new book bring rest and refreshment to the women with a reminder that You not only love their minds, hearts and spirits, but You also love their bodies and desire that they care for themselves.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Among the tall beautiful trees of the Colorado mountains, our group of volunteers began to gather last Saturday to prepare for our days of ministry. You might imagine that preparation involves study and long hours. But wait…trails? How in the world could that prepare us to serve? We’ve been walking up trails to the village of Beaver Creek. We’ve been hiking trails around the campus, watching hummingbirds gather and squirrels run. And we’ve been trying to follow the “trails” to find our rooms in the multi-level, six building complex that is the Charter at Beaver Creek. So trees and trails? Got it.

But towels? If you came in at the right time this week, you’d have seen a room full of women from all walks of life wrapping the feet of their friends in towels. Oh, none of us are professional, that’s for sure! But we can all hold a towel, and we can all laugh and visit as we wash the feet of those who carry the gospel of Jesus to the world.

Today we pray for Attendees: Kathy, Marlene, Tiffany

For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. (Philippians 1:14-16)

Dear Heavenly Father,

You know how cross-cultural teams often struggle to work well together. You know what disagreements or broken relationships our attendees may be struggling to resolve. Because we know you highly value unity and love for one another, we ask with confidence for reconciliation and for Your godly wisdom for the women to know how to deal with divisions or differing perspectives. Please give those on unhealthy teams a desire for harmony and peace. Gifts of humility, compassion, true friendship and unity are needed for each team represented at the retreat.

As the women enjoy the tranquility of the retreat, may You teach them how to live in peace with their teammates.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today we pray for Volunteers: Peg, Judyann, Elisabeth, Bethany, Gail

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy. (Philippians 1:4 )

Dear Heavenly Father,

You know how much courage and humility it takes for us to admit we need help when we are hurting, perplexed or confused because of burdens, hurts from trauma or relationships gone sideways. The counselors you have sent to serve the attendees will be a huge gift to those who need someone safe to talk to about the heavy things on their hearts.

Please give the retreat attendees courage to face what is in their hearts. Please give the counselors the ability to listen with love, compassion and a heart to understand and extend Your hope. Please bless each counseling visit with the healing and insights only You can provide and may Your truth shine a light to each one’s path.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today we pray for Volunteer: Jo Beth

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy. (Philippians 1:4 )

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the the women who will lead everyone to worship You with all their hearts, minds, souls and spirits while we are at the Furlough Retreat. Please give them strength and health to lead us, help them with the technical aspects of worship and help their focus be You alone. When there are technical glitches or musical errors, help our worship leaders to release them to you and remember You are Lord even of glitches and errors. If we make noise, our noise will be beautiful in your ears.

May each volunteer and attendee follow our worship leaders into Your presence with joy and thanksgiving for Who You are and all You have done. May our corporate worship give You pleasure, honor and glory!

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
