After more than a year of explaining Slack is more than just chat, I wrote it up - http://www.personalinfocloud.com/blog/2015/8/25/slack-is-more-than-chat-why-chat-is-the-trojan-horse-to-better-enterprise

I figured this was a good place to share this as well, as it puts the focus on the shift from email.

After seven years of using the term "One Year Club" I have written about it. It is about those who have a social platform (or more than one) and a year or so in start realizing this is often really complex and are looking for way to see through the fog of complexity to get clarity, as well as get a grasp on if they have the right tool(s) or not.

Seven years ago it was rather common, but today it is not only more prevalent, but the situation may be worse (given the conversations I have been having the last 6 months or so).

My often referenced “One Year Club” now has something to point to. “The One Year Club: A seven year review” - http://www.personalinfocloud.com/blog/2015/7/22/the-one-year-club-a-seven-year-review

Today (Friday) I'm speaking at 18F about Internal Social / Collaboration Tools and it has a live stream starting at 2pm Eastern Time.
Talk: Internal Social / Collaboration Tools
Over the past 15 years organizations have been moving out of email for team / group communication and coordination, collaborative work, and social interaction with others (inside the organization and with partners in other organizations). In this time the tools have improved and there are a lot of lessons learned as well as solid understanding gained (yet, not widely known) that helps digitally working out loud today as well as planning for the ever present changes in the next year or few. We have learned that there is a large difference between social media in the consumer space and social / collaboration platforms for work, which include 3 distinctly different internal models for 3 different classes of work.
