Kristallnacht, 79 Years Later. Among the many hard lessons of history, perhaps the hardest is that our worst selves can still be so easily aroused by fear. Of the other. That brand of fear, for despots, is power.

Then comes the “banality of evil,” as it normalizes in people’s mind and in their lives.

Eichmann, after all, just made sure the trains ran on schedule. What the trains carried, and what happed after the trains arrived, on time, at their destination was not of Eichmann’s concern.

Not hyperbole but critical thinking and curiosity. Not fear but courage, even feigned courage, in the face of those who would stoke fear to consolidate power, is a well-learned - and tragically hard-earned - lesson of history.

One we seem to have to relearn every generation or two. Always at higher cost than the last time.

In hopes of currying favor with Gov. Scott, Ryan Zinke exempts Florida from his disastrous plan to open 90% of Outer Continental Shelf. The Interior Secretary likely doesn’t understand (or disregards) the law, and many oil companies don’t much care for taking on the risk of deep water exploration in any case.

Make America great again. Dump Zinke.

Kudos to my friend & colleague Richard Matthews for consistently (and single-handily) producing The Green Market Oracle, among the best green business sites on the web:

Also a shout-out to TriplePundit. It's been my great fortune to work with the team at 3P over the past decade, especially Jen & Nick! !

Though I'm 6'4" (taller than Trump!), when I weighed 239-240, my doctor warned me about impending obesity. So I put down the cheeseburger. Or was it that box of cookies? Maybe the peppermint paddies...
In any case, even at 203 I'm still trying to lose weight. #Girther

“It’s concerning that our advisory council has been unable to meet for over a year,” said Scott Braden, a member of the Rocky Mountain RAC who is a wilderness and public lands advocate at Conservation Colorado. “Secretary Zinke has said that local input is important for BLM to consider, and yet these councils, which provide just such input, have been sidelined.”
