Memorial to Gustave Sharangabo Makonene

Transparency International, its chapters and partners in more than 110 countries around the world, Individual Members, the International Board of Directors and Advisory Council wish to express their deepest sympathy to the family of Gustave Sharangabo Makonene, a most respected member of Transparency International Rwanda, who was murdered one year ago today.

As a Movement focused on stopping the scourge of corruption and bringing dignity into people’s daily lives, we will never forget Gustave. We cannot rest until those responsible have faced justice.

Transparency International sends its support to Gustave’s family and Transparency International Rwanda at this time of great sadness and grief.

Nominations open for Transparency International Integrity Awards

The awards are presented to outstanding individuals and/or organisations making a significant contribution to the fight against corruption. Nominations are judged by the Board Integrity Awards Committee.

Past winners come from all walks of life and have included a schoolteacher and a pilot as well as public officials, activists and journalists. Between them they have brought down corrupt politicians, exposed organised crime networks and helped recover millions in stolen assets. More often than not, winning nominations have come from TI chapters. Last year, Rafael Marques de Morais, an activist from Angola, and Luo Changping, a Chinese journalist, were presented with awards.
