If your link building isn't a creative process you're doing it wrong.
Introduction
I started my career in link building and SEO at Page One Power as a writer where I built links primarily through content contribution strategies.

Now I run a team of link builders, known internally as "Team Albatross," who cater to a diverse group of clients. We take pride in being a major piece within T.W.F.L.B.F (The World Finest Link Building Firm) and work hard to ensure our clients are happy and see results while staying ahead of SEO's ever changing horizon.

Check out this survey that +Don Sturgill conducted on the perception of guest blogging 6 months later. It surveyed MyBlogU members so the responses might be a bit one sided, but there are some good insight/opinions in there.
Was the My Blog Guest Penalty warranted? How does it reflect on Google? Find out industry opinion from multiple contributors.

My mistake, Don! What tool was it?

A very expansive #linkbuilding  resource list. Definitely worth the bookmark for any stage of link building.

My friends over at the Linkarati blog put together this great timeline about Google's manual penalties against big brand names.

I remember most of these thanks to the FUD that it always stirs up, but I had no idea that BMW got slammed for cloaking.

Check it out!

Did a quick search of "croatia" do double check my spelling (that's what Google is for right?) - and was surprised by the huge knowledge graph display for the #fifaworldcup  / match information. Google's get pretty good at this live knowledge graph thing and knowing what users are looking for.

Oh shoot - didn't even think of that. My bad... Don't walk into the other side of the office then since it's projected onto the wall.

Hey Robert hope you don't mind some feedback. First off, grats on getting some great names to interview, I'd just personally like to see you control the interviews more. There were some good takeaways from Scott Stratten, but overall I don't think it addressed "how to succeed in social" to any strong degree.

I guess the title might just be throwing me and it prepped me for more actionable items (there were some if you payed attention), but this seemed like more of a conversation about social or maybe more accurately, "Scott's Thoughts on Social and a Rant about G+"

Sure - I'll do the best I can w/out watching its entirety over again.

It seemed like the majority of the first third of the show was about where G+ or Linkedin was lacking from a social media sense and some minor topics related around that with very little input or direction from Robert. There were some useful nuggets of information about not just shotgun blasting marketing, drawing your followers in and staying ahead of them with good content/real interactions and some others that I can't recall at the moment.

An example of where I really wanted some more information was when you brought up the new twitter account for your Podcasts, and how difficult that is to build up. It would have been a great place for Robert to ask what kind of things you're doing to overcome that and get specifics - not that they apply to everyone, but it helps to get brainstorming going.

It wasn't until around minute 13:00 when Robert asked his first user question that I felt the conversation started getting into more specifics and actionable takeaways.

I think the title "how to succeed" is what got me the most. It left me expecting something other than what I (thought) I got. It was a good conversation and I agreed with most of what you were saying.

Hope that helps to explain where I was coming from in my original post, and apologies if it doesn't... I can struggle with getting to the point :)

I did enjoy the broadcast, just wanted to leave some feedback for Robert about what might make these broadcasts more beneficial to the viewers and what might make him a better interviewer.

Please help by donating and/or sharing this link along! Read more for details.

My friend, Lauren, just underwent emergency open heart surgery to replace a heart valve. As you can see from the photo, she's recovering well and is in great spirits as is usual for Lauren. -

The downside is that operations like this are expensive, even with health insurance. To help Lauren from sliding too far into debt from a life saving operation, some good friends started up this  #YouCaring  donation page with a goal of $10,000 - and we've already raised over $1,500 in only two days.

We'd really appreciate the help of keeping the momentum up, and if you could donate any amount (even just a dollar, it adds up!) and/or just sharing this post/link with your circles and other social media accounts Lauren would truly appreciate it.

Thanks!

In February 2014, Lauren underwent emergency surgery to replace a heart valve. Your donation will help with extensive medical expenses incurred from this surgery and recovery process.

A well written article that has been an issue of hot debate in shares by +Mike Allton and +Dustin W. Stout. This was a double social-media-awareness-whammy for me as well after I watched this video (http://www.upworthy.com/some-creepy-dudes-wrote-some-creepy-things-to-this-scientist-so-she-is-calling-them-out-in-public) by +Emily Graslie last night and fully realized just how selfish and hurtful people can be behind anonymity - or just simply by forgetting that there is another human being on the other side of the screen.

Check out the full article and discussions going on in Mike and Dustin's posts - there is some great stuff there and no matter what side of the fence you fall on for this topic it's always good to remember that a little kindness can go a long way.

What do you think about being Anonymous on Social Media?

So while Google has tried to enforce the use of real names on Google+ for a while now, many of you have noticed that YouTube has adopted the Google+ comment system, requiring that anyone who wants to leave a comment must be logged into their Google+ account. That means that real names are becoming a requirement on Google+ and YouTube.

Many have appreciated these moves, while others have complained. And there's an argument to be made for both sides. Guest blogger +Benjamin Taylor points out that the increased accountability comes at a cost of freedom of expression. And that while there may be a positive impact on interconnectivity, there's actually a very real risk to people in some situations.

Read the full post: http://www.thesocialmediahat.com/blog/naming-nameless-google-s-quest-deal-real-names-12032013

What do you think about these changes, and the direction we're headed? Do you appreciate Google forcing the use of real names, or do you think users have a right to be anonymous on social networks?

Thanks for your comments and opinions!

Cheers to that! Also, kudos to bringing on a good guest writer. Did my stint of that and it can be a tough go.

I won the ultra-prestigious Wednesday Caption Contest  in the Link Builders community(https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/108378415009975354815).  #nbd     #linkbuilding    #oscars

The winner of our caption contest is +Thomas McMahon! Way to compare two Oscar winners to a blog comment link. Many kudos.

Hope you all had fun again this week! I'll admit this one was harder, so I'll make next week's a little bit easier. Maybe Rand Fishkin will get caught in a Samsung product placement scam; who knows! Thanks for participating everyone!

Shout out to my friend +Mike Ridley on his site redesign and for sharing some link love. Boise has some fantastic watering holes and I use Boise Bar Guide frequently for finding good Happy Hour specials around town.
