How would you spend an extra $1000? People talk about how they'd spend an extra $1000... Now let's see what will actually happen. On Monday, April 23, I'm giving away $1001 to one lucky co...

This will blow your mind -- did you know that you can use your brain as a digital darkroom?
Here's something that'll blow your mind (sorry that it's an ad): stare at the colored dots on this girl's nose for 30 seconds, then quickly look at a white wall or ceiling (or anything pure white) and...

Theory vs. Reality of Being a Photographer

One of my readers (David Robbins) posted this hilarious "it's only funny because it's so true" pie chart on my Facebook page (facebook.com/skelby), and I just cracked up. Partially because I just had this conversation, not 20 minutes ago, with +RC Concepcion about this this thing being an upcoming topic for "The Grid" called "It's not what you think" about the perception of being a particular type of photographer, and then the reality of it. Click on the chart for a good chuckle. :)

Most if not all photographers at some point are asked to provide pictures for free. This website has a very well crafted response to send to those that are requesting those free services and they are providing the response for you to use under Creative Commons licensing. I highly recommend sharing this with all your photographer friends.
Dear potential photo buyer, If you have been directed to this page, it is likely that you have requested the use of an image or images for free or minimal compensation. As professional photog......

20 years ago today I soloed for the first time. If you thought driving a car by yourself for the first time was scary, try this sometime. Fifteen minutes into our lesson my instructor Mark made me set the helicopter down. He got out and pulled out his camera from under his seat and announced.."It time for you to solo". He had given me no advanced warning I was going to solo during that lesson. I think springing on me was the best way to do it though because I would have stressed out about it if I had known. To this day it remains one of the biggest highlights of my life.

If your brain works normally

This is another example of an amazing illusion!!! The last sentence is so true.

If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, the dots will remain only one color, pink.

However if you stare at the black '+ ' in the center, the moving dot turns to green.
Now, concentrate on the black ' + ' in the center of the picture. After a short period, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will see only a single green dot rotating.

It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear. This should be proof enough, we don't always see what we think we see.
Reshare this to all of your friends and amaze them.
