Had a great discussion around adblocking with +Leo Laporte on +Triangulation yesterday. That was the first time that I experienced TWiT from the perspective of a guest rather than a viewer.

Not in the video, however, is the moment where I accomplished to crash Skype on their machine. :D
So I'd recommend watching the live stream on live.twit.tv to catch such moments.
Leo has a very interesting chat with Job Plas, Thomas Greiner, and Dean Murphy, the men behind Adblock Plus and Crystal.

Great to see +Google Deutschland recommending an extension that I developed. :D #madeInAustria

Why would someone add such a license header to publicly accessible JavaScript files? What's confidential about it if everyone can see it anyway - even people like me who didn't sign an NDA?

#Startups  are no professionals so don't expect them to be & Good   #journalism  is rare

I love the way the internet works, giving small bloggers a voice that can be heard all over the world. However, this model also creates problems. When there are so many people, spreading so much information about everything, whom can we trust?

Some people would say journalists. But what if journalists only repeat the message without fact-checking it - like it is currently done all over the world due to it being "more cost-efficient"?

In the end nothing has changed. Media is spreading both truths and lies and it's our job to come up with an objective opinion by doing the fact-checking, by not trusting anyone until we've heard everyone and really think through the logic within a story.

The problem is: Most people don't do that. Therefore, everyone who reshares a story, everyone who makes use of a fact they heard, everyone who wants good journalism to prevail should do enough research about the topic before spreading potential lies.

A popular product probably has a company behind it, yes. But it's a startup. Don't expect responses from it to be perfect when confronted with utter nonsense from media. People are easy to manipulate. Make up your own opinion and decide for yourself.

Nothing to add… except: #REST   #FTW
This is probably the best explanation of SOAP vs. REST that involves Martin Lawrence.

#MPAA #movies #cinema #stats

Behind the Statistics of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA)

The MPAA recently released their annual Theatrical Market Statistics which included some intersting numbers but one number was missing (in all of them): the number of people who watched a movie. However, it contained both the Box Office numbers and the ticket prices per year. Based on those two numbers (for U.S. and Canada) I calculated the numbers of movie-goers per year which are shown in those charts (they're not scientific, just some quick data visualization).

Ticket prices are rising and the Box Office numbers too but there are less and less people going to the theaters. So why are people still surprised when newer movies are much more likely to rise to the top of the Box Office list? Furthermore why is the ranking of most popular movies based on Box Office numbers rather than how many people actually watched it?

#DRM   #OpenWeb   #HTML5

I fully agree with the +Electronic Frontier Foundation: There should be no DRM-capabilities in the HTML5 standard. DRM is an abomination of the digital age and needs to die!
Proposals to add DRM to HTML5 open the door for Hollywood's gangrenous anti-technology culture to infect vital open Web standards. https://eff.org/deeplinks/2013/03/defend-open-web-keep-drm-out-w3c-standards

I was about to buy Plants vs Zombies (which I already own and adore on iOS) for my Android device. While +Google Play says that it costs €1.12, the confirmation message from +Google Wallet clearly tells me that I have to pay €2.69.

I assume that this is only some minor error but still...
