BELVEDERE LEGENDS OF THE MARTINI

Thursday 31st July saw Belvedere, the world’s first super premium vodka, launch the Legends of the Martini at the Royal Academy Senate Rooms in Burlington Gardens. The luxurious, all sensory experience celebrates the evolution of the martini, from gin to vodka, exploring the characters who made the iconic cocktail famous along the way.

A selection of cutting edge artists, set designers and musicians have been commissioned to reinterpret martini ‘legends’ into a piece from the exhibition. Pieces on show include a musical score board by concept house band Let The Machines do The Work and still life by fashion photographer, Jess Bonham.

A cluster of London’s cultural elite, were invited to the launch to peruse the exhibition and then match a list of legends such as Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra and Kate Moss to each piece. The experience then took guests to the accompanying tasting bar where they were invited to sample the flights and decide which variable most suits their palette. The miniature martinis showcased the limitless customisation of the iconic cocktail with variables including shaken vs. stirred, wet vs. dry and a selection of vermouths and garnishes.

Curator Tory Turk said: “The martini cocktail has had many manifestations throughout its development, and now holds a distinct image within popular culture. Its connotations evoke an invitation to a sophisticated lifestyle and Legends of the Martini opens the door into this world.’’

The Belvedere Legends of the Martini Experience, priced at £15, is available for booking throughout August and includes access to the exhibition and a martini tasting. The curated exhibition is open to the public free of charge.
