From One Developer to Another: Some words of wisdom from our lead developer +Conor Clafferty

I found a really great program called Groc which generates beautiful documentation for your code, so you don't have to.

http://nevir.github.com/groc/

Groc creates documentation for all major languages including CSS, JavaScript etc.

Any commented code when written in Markdown gets converted to styled HTML pages with the comments on the left and code on the right. The end effect is a pleasant narrative of your code.

Groc even goes one step further, the automator even throws in a table of contents to assist with navigation, oh and you can adjust the .css/.js files it makes meaning you can customise the look of it to match your brand.

Since we all comment our code anyway, this tool serves as an incredible assistant in creating high quality assets for our code based deliverables.

Alternatives I've tested are:
Docco http://jashkenas.github.com/docco/
JSDoc https://code.google.com/p/jsdoc-toolkit/ (unfortunately not maintained)
groc. Groc takes your documented code, and in an admission that people aren't machines, generates documentation that follows the spirit of literate programming. Take a look at the self-generated docum...

The BLISS site jumped a pagerank last week. Trying to work out whether this is the work of the Freshness update, or our new Google+ business page.

A list apart has had a design and much like its content, its not boastful nor pretentious, but rather focuses all its attention on its users needs. First and foremost an online magazine, it’s articles take precedence and are made clear with big headlines and large body ensuring great readability.

The small palette works well not to distract the reader alongside an effective colour scheme of red and blue. The cropped header/footer and unequal margins aren’t to everyone’s taste but they are a little different and seem to fit the sites new identity; a little quirky but ultimately very functional.

Jeffrey Zeldman states in his post about the site, he ‘challenged Mike and Tim to think of design non-canonically. What do I mean by that? Sometimes with responsive design, one particular layout (for instance, the desktop browser layout) feels like the “real design”, and smaller-screen experiences become merely usable afterthoughts.’ We love this point and hope it has an impact on current trends.

Im so glad Im not the only one!!!

I spend my lunch creating a fix for this!

That header just really gets under my skin. I kept on thinking they were going to fix it, but they never did!

Brian & everyone at BLISS, Hope you are all well. Just wanted to send you a quick message saying thanks again for giving me the opportunity to work with you last summer. I'm now interning at a Digital Marketing agency in London as a copywriter, and the experience I gained from the Content Producer role no doubt helped me get the job and is helping me day to day! If the internship goes well I'll progress into a full time role at the agency, so once again I'm really thankful that you let me work with you as it basically set me up for my first job now I've graduated!
